Rolling Stone: The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

This is a lovely coffee table read. Can't put it down.

Fabulous coffee table book, bought as a gift

Bought this nas a fathers day gift for my audiophile dad. At the time of opening the usual "thanks" without really registering what it was. A day or so later rang me up to say how brilliant it was - nice book if you are into music as we both are

Love this book. A great gift idea. The person I bought it for reviewed and listened to each album himself.

Not only £10 cheaper than it’s cover price, but an excellent compendium for an avid music collector since the 60s. Brilliant to see many of my own collection in the Top 20! These selections are always subjective and there is no accounting for taste (no matter how bad in a few of the albums chosen!!). There are still a few more I need to invest in though. Overall a very well presented book; which will be referenced on a regular basis.

A very good read. Impressive selection, not all are obvious choices and is better for that.

This looks like a great book, bigger than I was expecting! I bought it for a gift so haven't removed the shrink wrap yet and can't see inside, but it looks great....Hubby will love it!

I disliked this edition for its notable bias towards black music

Il libro è una versione estesa e corredata di meravigliose fotografie della lista dei migliori 500 album di tutti i tempi di Rolling Stone. Questo libro fa riferimento alla terza versione di questa lista, aggiornata nel 2020. Con questa edizione, Rolling Stone ha cercato di dare più spazio e rilevanza alla musica nera (soul, R&B e hip-hop), che nelle due versioni precedenti (2003 e 2012) avevano trovato poco spazio. Ora, si può essere d'accordo o meno sull'ordine dato ai dischi: ad esempio, "My beautiful dark twisted fantasy" di Kanye West sta al 17mo posto, cioé 38 posti davanti a "Dark Side of the Moon". Capisco che può far storcere il naso a qualcuno. Ma il libro non va preso come una graduatoria, prendetelo piuttosto come un elenco di roba che comunque va ascoltata: sono tutti dischi fondamentali, a prescindere da come vogliate metterli in ordine. E' un ottimo libro per chi non è esperto e vuole un elenco che gli faccia scoprire i classici. Del resto, se non avete ascoltato almeno l'80% dei dischi di questo elenco è inutile che parliate di musica.
