Great value for money.
This radio is great. With no digital experience I was on the air in less than 5 minutes. It sounds great and I’ve got great reports when on the air.

A good HT, easy to use and program.
This is a great radio. Very easy to program with the keypad. Also easy to use and navigate through the user interface. The audio is really good for the size of the speaker. The battery life could be better. Charging will take a while. Recommend using the fast charge cradle sold separately, but the charge time is cut down significantly. Besides the battery life and charging, a great radio.

A Great Acquisition for the Ham Shack
I have been an amateur radio operator for 65 years. In the past two years I have gotten interested in Digital Radio. I have one digital HT at home and I purchased this one to get on Yaesu's C4FM. It was a breeze to program manually. In a matter of a half hour I was able to program seven local repeaters into the FT-70DR. All of them came up perfectly. My first QSO was with a local ham who reported my signal was Q5 with crystal clear audio. This is a fine HT for anyone wanting to get started in amateur radio. Programming manually is easy, audio on both transmit and receive is excellent and the keypad is not overwhelming with lots of options. The manual is well laid out with clear step by step instructions. In short it is a great acquisition for the ham shack of the newcomer or the old timer. W3GLQ

Good radio that does what the manufacturer says it does
Note: In the U.S., you need a Amateur Radio Technician's license to legally transmit. In other nations, you most likely need a license from your national government. While I studied for the Technician's exam, I found it rather easy and the questions and answer pool is published so you know what to learn. Warning: this is not a DMR radio. If you need to communicate with a DMR repeater, not a good choice. For Digital Fusion or analog, good choice. The downside is a short battery life compared to cheaper radios and a lack of USB C charging. The upside is the sound quality is good and I was able to reach many local repeaters within 10 miles line of site. The two digital fusion repeaters are just out of transmit range but one of them is in receive range. (I live in a low area.) When I tried to program it during a "net" the radio automatically made all the settings after I set the frequency. As for manually programming analog repeaters, I found the process a bit slightly tedious but easy. You can also use software to program the radio but I wanted to learn how to do it manually in case I'm away from home and all I have is the radio (and not my computer). If that isn't one of your needs, you can use their software or paid software or open source software. I will seriously consider other Yaesu products in the future.

Great radio and easy to program without a computer
A great radio for the money! I have a Yaesu FT-65 and a couple of Baofengs, and the Yaesu FT-70DR is now my daily carry. Easy to program without a computer. I did order a rapid charger and extra battery, but the battery is a little better than expected so far based on other reviews. All in all, a nice HT radio with digital for anyone using Fusion, and built extremely well. Don’t be afraid to buy this radio if you are wanting and HT with digital.

So Much Better Than DMR
Having a ball with C4FM with a new pin star hotspot. No codeplugs, computer needed!! Best radio ever!! Battery lasts 8 to 10 hours with moderate use, no different than my DMR. That's why you should always get a second battery!🙄 My only issue is a drop in charger should come with it...or...using a USB to "C" cable on the battery to charge. 🤔

Great HT for any stage of HAM operator
Fanatic radio. Great clarity, great power. Very easy to program. Very user friendly. The battery indicator makes guys believe it has poor battery life, but it has not been an issue. I've had it go over 10-12hrs on scan without dieing. Works just fine

Boringly reliable digital with atrocious battery life/charging.
Great radio, terrible battery life and even worse charging times. Solid unit, but I find myself using one of my BF’s far more frequently due to the charging hassles. Programming with CHIRP is a PITA, though the HT programming is easy. Save and get something better, if you have to have digital, I suppose it worth entering the Yaesu ecosystem; I would not purchase this radio again.
