The magnet is powerful when set against steel of a decent thickness eg 3-10mm. On thin sheet steel it is easier to pull off. I'm using it on various machines eg a Grinding wheel where it sits on the main body firmly, a band saw where its just ok on the tin work but great on the steel table, and a wet grinder which has an alloy body, so screwed a piece of 10mm plate to the wall above it, which it grips very firmly. lamp is fairly bright not as powerful as I had hoped, it is a bright white light broadly equivalent to an old 60w bulb or a 10w LED. But works well as you can get it close to where you need it and adjust it just so. I'm in my mid 60's and find I need really good light & reading glasses these days. So a versatile lamp that can be moved to where I need it.

I originally hoped I could use this to do my nails but will have to see, I'll have to find somewhere where there's enough room for it and enough room to place an iron plate which this is to be then placed on to. DO NOT look directly at the light as it is very powerful. I like the fact that it's flexible and can direct the light where you want. It's quite big, I also didn't expect this. It's also very sturdy which means that it's durability will be great.

Bright, using on a pillar drill so lots of metal to grab on to. Quite flexible and very bright so not bad. Not cheap but not unhappy with it.

I bought this for my milling machine. The magnetic base is OK on a horizontal surface, but not great horizontally if you’re regularly making adjustments to the swan neck. I decided to do away with the magnet and bolt it directly to my machine and hard- wired the power supply into the machine electrics. The light is plenty bright enough, and it’s pure white, so ideal for my application. Time will tell how long it will last.

Fits where I wanted and give out a very good light .

Neither the goose-neck or the magnet can hold the weight of the lamp!! Not very good so will be returning

This is a really good, heavy-duty and well-constructed work lamp. The magnet on it (which can be turned on and off) is very strong and grips plate steel so powerfully it's almost impossible to shift while the magnet's on. The light is powerful and directional and the swan neck has no wobble at all. It requires a bit of muscle to position it, but it absolutely stays where you put it. It's also very portable of course, and in my darkish cottage, it's a really useful piece of kit. I was amazed at the difference last night when I was trying to do a piece of essential, detailed work in the failing light. My one complaint is that the listing clearly states it has a horse mouth clamp base ... which I (not unreasonably) assumed was in addition to and as an alternative to the magnetic base. In fact, mine has no such thing ... it ONLY has a magnetic base, which means that it can only be fixed to ferrous metal, limiting the places it can be used. (I assume that a listing for another, similar lamp was adapted for this listing, and the reference to the clamp accidentally left in.) It's for that reason I've deducted a star from the rating. Had I known that there was no clamp base, I probably wouldn't have requested it. And had I actually paid for it, I'd be sending it back for a refund. So, DON'T buy this if you're expecting a magnetic base with the alternative of a clamp ... Other than that: recommended.
