Great sensitivity!
This rod is amazing for fighting trout (and panfish.. .. and bass), it bends really nice and the sensitivity in the rod is truly something else! You can feel slight bites in the blank that is exposed near your thumb. I've used mine countless times since buying it and make sure to always pack it when I head out!The tip of my rod broke recently and St. Croix was nothing but helpful over phone to ship and replace the tip having only to pay the shipping cost! Really nice customer service :) I want to add that this poor rod has been in the hands of a true fishing addict so there's been many hours logged on it, and I wouldn't attribute breaking to it being a bad rod.

Quality rod
I liked that Amazon actually had it when no one else on the west coast had any in stock! This rod is lightweight and very sensitive. The finish is exceptional! With the right reel this will be a highly effective rod.

Sensitive and strong
I got the 5'4" of this model. I fish small streams for brook trout and this rod performs extremely well. Sensitive enough to feel almost anything but still has enough backbone to keep me in charge of the fish. I bought a 5ft premier last year but the moderate action just didn't perform as well as this one.

St. Croix = Quality
I bought this rod for an up coming Trout fishing trip to Colorado. I have as yet to use it but, it feels great. I bought St Croix because I have 3 other rods made by this company and they're all wonderful. The last 2 rods before this one I purchased were by St Croix. One of the Mojo Inshore series and one of the Pan Fish series. Both are outstanding. This company makes fishing rods and nothing else. They can be pricy but, I have gotten so I don't want to take a chance with another brand. I matched this Trout rod with the smallest Quantum Energy PT Spinning reel and in my opinion it couldn't have a better feel.

Great rod, worth the money, but not perfect.
I trout fish small streams for fish averaging from 8-16 inches. Very nice rod, but not perfect. The sensitivity on the ULF 54 is near perfect, but I don't like that a rod with such short length has 8 eyelets. All those eyelets create drag when casting and requires me to use extra weight to get any precision in casts over 20 feet. The rod is barely 5'6", five eyelets would be plenty. The cork and handle are great. Gives the rod a really nice feel, makes it comfortable to hold, and helps with control. This rod is well worth the money and with minor changes would be perfect.

Ultra light heaven.
Paired with Shimano 95 Stella 1000, had the greatest High Sierra trout trip possible. Even caught (& released) 2 Golden Trout along with many Rainbow & a Cutthroat. This little rod holds up to half pounders in swift water. Yes, it's tricky and challeging, but who wants to simply haul them in?
