The third pair was the charm!
First, the reader should be advised that I'm an "old school" guy that has spent a lifetime grousing about the cost of shoes ... ALL kinds of shoes ... tennis shoes ... dress shoes ... hiking shoes ... flip-flops ... you name it. I'm the guy that regularly prowls the shoe section at re-sellers like Marshalls and Ross, always searching for that once-in-a-lifetime bargain/value that miraculously shows up in my size ... "you just gotta get there on the right day ..." Am I right, men? While all that prowling has undoubtedly saved me a small fortune over the years, it also taught me something. Sometimes, you just can't get what you really want unless you're willing to spend what it costs. That's the way I feel about these shoes. I knew I wanted a captoe Oxford in this color, and I spent a LONG time looking at LOTS of different makers/designers on Amazon. I never found anything that looked as nice as these Cole Haans. For the reasons explained above, I never previously bought this label, so I wasn't sure about the sizing. My last pair of high-end dress shoes were Bostonians (and yes ... I groused bitterly about the cost when I broke down and bought them), which "ran short." I got those shoes in 13D, which fit and served me well through some pretty heavy use over a number of years. So, I figured I'd try the same in the Cole Haans. My mistake ... in 13D they fit just OK at the widest part of my foot (a little tight, but not uncomfortable), but WAY too long in the toe, and just didn't fit my foot right. Didn't have a lot of time to mess around, so I put the first pair aside and re-ordered another pair in 12EE (W), figuring that adjustment would make the perfect fit, and then I'd return the first pair, after I was sure. The second pair fit my foot like a glove, right out of the box. Very comfortable, and a perfect fit for my foot. Unfortunately, with the second pair, I also noticed a small irregularity in the upper sole stitching on one of the two, right at the ball of the foot, and a blemish in the tanning on the tongue of the other. Knowing I would never be happy if I "settled" for that, I put that pair aside too, and ordered a THIRD pair, also in 12EE (W). The third time was indeed the charm ... this pair was perfect in every respect, and in my opinion, worth every penny they cost. The "British tan" finish is really nice, and exactly as shown in the photo. The stitching is flawless. The leather is supple and uniform throughout every surface of the shoe. The heels and soles are very thick and strong ... a bit stiff at first, but I'm a big guy, so that's fine with me. My Bostonians had leather soles, and I realized (after wearing completely through one of them) that rubber soles, like these, work better for me because I do as much walking on outdoor surfaces like concrete and asphalt as I do on tile and other indoor surfaces. Amazon made my return of the first two pairs a breeze, and they started processing a full refund on my credit card the same day I dropped the return boxes off with UPS. Thanks, Amazon ... you made this particular online shopping experience a real pleasure for me -- not only in helping me find these terrific shoes, but also getting them to me quickly, in the perfect condition and size I needed. Once you figure out what size actually fits you, you'll love these Cole Haans ...

Winner! Best Business Shoe
Cole Haan Men's Lenox Hill Cap Oxford, Best business shoe – easy to slip on, leather is not very shiny but this is good in the sense scuff marks do not show up as very noticeable. The inside heel / sole is made with a rubber like material that makes it comfortable for every day walking. The bottom of the shoe had good grip so you don’t need to spend the extra money for a shoe cobiler to finish the shoe with a tap. Florsheim Men's Montinaro Cap Toe Oxford The difference between the corbetta and Montinaro is the Corbetta has a rubber grip in betted in the front sole of the shoe and the Montinaro does not. Otherwise it is the same shoe Florsheim Mens Corbetta Cap Toe Oxford The difference between the corbetta and Montinaro is the Corbetta has a rubber grip in betted in the front sole of the shoe. This was my number one choice for style, shine, quality and comfort. However once I used the shoe for a day there was a significant crease that showed up on the top of the shoe. This worried me because overtime I could see this getting worse and possibly shorten the life of the shoe if not taken care of properly. I wanted this to be the winner but I could not get over the crease issue. The inside sole has nice leather with memory foam. Anthony Veer Mens Clinton Cap-toe Oxford Leather Shoe in Goodyear Welted Construction Best formal dress shoe In all accounts if you want a formal dress shoe that has leather throughout. Style, and shine are great. You will need to break these shoes in as it does not have a lot of bend to the bottom of the shoe. The shoe comes with a shoe-horn. Stacy Adams Men's Kordell Oxford Best value shoe – not neccesarily quality. The shoe has the appearance of a nice dress shoe but the shoe was slightly big for my foot and when I tied the shoe tight there was excess material that crunched up. It is also a synthetic type leather.

My intro into higher end shoes
I have previously purchased dress shoes from Meijer at a price point of $30. However, I often found that they did not fit properly and became uncomfortably tight after wearing them for a full workday. As a result, I frequently felt the need to switch to sneakers. Recently, I acquired my first pair of high-quality office shoes, which were an investment of over $180. Upon trying them on, I was truly impressed by the quality and fit. I opted for the wide size, and they slid on effortlessly, offering remarkable comfort. This experience has taught me the importance of investing in quality footwear. By choosing to spend more, I have found that I can dress well, look professional, and feel comfortable throughout the day.

Nice Shoes with a few Flaws
As other posters have noted, the dark brown color has some strong reddish tones to it, making it closer to a burgundy than a typical dark brown. This was perfect for me, so I was very happy with the color. The leather is decent quality and holds a shine relatively well. Two things about these shoes could be better, in my opinion. The first is that the leather is very stiff, they wore holes in my heels the second time I wore them, which gave me a deeper appreciation for what women regularly sacrifice in the name of fashion. After this episode, I went after the heel leather by hand, bending it down into the shoe in an effort to break it down a bit. I also applied some leather conditioner and this has really improved the comfort of these shoes, I would highly recommend it! Additionally, the heels in these things are not insignificant. I am used to wearing relatively flat shoes, so this has been a big adjustment and, really, a drawback for me. I have to change how I walk when I wear these shoes, which is kind of a pain. That said, I do like the wooden look of the heels and the look of the shoe overall, so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of satisfaction for fanciness. Overall, a very good pair of shoes with just a couple negatives that won't let me give these shoes five stars.

Very comfortable!
I have been wearing these for about a month now, they are great! Easy to clean, I walk about 10 hours a day and they are comfortable.

Good, soft, supple leather. Very comfy. Size down 1/2 - 1 size.
These are quite comfortable for dress shoes. I must confess I haven't worn them for any extended period yet, but just wearing them around the house a bit I'm not fidgeting and stressing out due to any discomfort. I will post back if it turns out they cannot be worn all day or they cut my Achilles. They leather itself feels very soft and supple and the shoes look great. I was dreading buying black shoes to go with my first suit (dark charcoal) since they often remind me of something a funeral home director would wear, but these don't make me think me of that. They're relatively simple but classy without being too gaudy like some dress shoes I've seen. While you're probably not getting Allen Edmonds quality, you're paying a third of the price for a very nice shoe. After reading reviews and trusting my gut instinct I purchased a 10, even though I wear 10.5 in virtually all tennis shoes, hiking boots and sandals. The 10 fit me just about perfectly. I feel like I could maaaaybe squeeze into a 9.5, but I think my toes would be cramped due to the pointy toe box. I'm a standard medium width and went with that and they were just about right. They are somewhat long and slender, but I think the width is just about spot-on and after breaking them in will be even better. I'm pretty pleased with them!

Great shoes, but i thought i bought 'NEW' shoes and not 'ABUSED' shoes
The Cole Haan dress shoes arrived yesterday, and I very excited/anxious to be receiving them. I ordered them for a close friend's wedding, since I was invited to be an usher. I figured it was time to update my shoes, since my last ones were on the verge of retirement. Easier said than done for a poor college student. It took a good chunk out of my paycheck, but I was able to order the shoes just in time for the wedding with 3 days to spare. Well, I can honestly say when the shoes arrived they were, I sure was surprised (both in a good and bad way.) The shoes themselves are of really good quality. I've worn many dress shoes throughout my life (my family is religious.), and there are some things that I would like to point out about these shoes. Some dress shoes the leather is softer, more pliable, than others; well, not this shoe. These are as stiff as a board, with very little give. That can be a good or bad thing depending on one's opinion. I personally like dress shoes that way. With the shoe being so stiff, it does mean they'll be taking some breaking in. Now I bet your wondering why if I liked the shoe, that I gave them one star. Here's why. The pair of shoes I received, well, it was obvious that they were used. To be honest, I expected shoes that had been tried on like you would expect in a shoe stores (it's hard to find a pair of shoes that haven't at least been tried on once by someone else.) The issue I have, it that the pair I received was obviously used/abused for a couple days, then returned. There are scuffs around the shoe, but scuffs aren't hard to polish out. The heal is worn, by outside use if I could guess (concrete/pavement) it's harder to wear down the heel of a shoe on carper or tiles. The shoes also have permanent creases already from excessive use (still livable, since I was only going to do this to the shoes myself.) But the biggest issue was the gash taken out of the side of one of the shoes. Everything else could be seen as normal use or polished out. Holes in leather shoes are harder to cover, and all you really can do is try to make them less noticeable. However, this was the breaking point for me. If I wanted a pair of used shoes, I would have bought used shoes. I would love to return them, but I need them for my friend's wedding. Which is the most frustrating part. is what really frustrates me. And I'm not one of the people that would use the shoe for a day and then return them (as you can see already happened to these shoes already.) So for a recap: Pros: -Stiff shoes (harder to break in, but more preferable for me.) -Look (the style and sheen of the shoes are great. You know the saying, you get what you pay for, and the quality of these shoes is well worth the price.) Neutral: Like many others have already mentioned, order smaller shoes than you normally wear. I wear a 10M (U.S.) in tennis shoes, so I ordered a size 9M and it fit perfectly. Cons: Don't expect a new shoe out of the box when it arrives. If you need them for an event like I did, order them weeks in advance so you can return them if necessary. (I normally do, but didn't have the money at the time to do it. I had hoped that Amazon would pull through with their regular reliability, but was let down when I needed it most.) I would have given these shoes 5 stars had they been New, but getting damaged used shoes when you pay high price for new shoes is unacceptable.

Great looking and very comfortable
Excellent shoes. 13 wide size is very true to size, comfortable, and no squeeze at all on my high arches. Very good looking and without flaws. Just got them, but I’ll try to update after a few months!
