Q: The picture doesn't show it with an attached spray head. Does this need to be purchased sperately?

YES, it comes with a spray head, be warned it is low flow (water saving) mist type sprayer, I don't think it is as powerful as i would like.

Q: Does anyone know what type of thread is on this thing, I bought one, and it doesn't fit any standard thread.

It's a single nozzle sprayer. Patern looks like a pressure washer. Works great.

Q: could this be used for spraying down a small dog for dog baths or is it too powerful? Does it spray in a nice circular pattern?

No, much to powerfull. You're dog will hate you for the rest of his life if you use this.
