MAKOTO Chinese Hook Swords Set of 2 Silver

I fell in love with twin hooks after seeing them in the epic battle scene from "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"; a little over a decade later I saw them Featured again on "Deadliest Warrior". Anyone who saw that show will know just how deadly these weapons are! So how do these $34 versions match up? I'd say pretty well! After reading a review describing these as light, paper thin, and easily bent, I was a bit apprehensive, but I needn't have been- the set I received was extremely sturdy and well made! Keep in mind that these are DESIGNED to be light, thin and to have a slight amount of give to them. They are fairly light, but have a good heft to them- all the better to block and strike with! I hacked through some heavy boxes and didn't bend mine even a bit. They come moderately sharp- that is to say you won't be slicing through skin and clothing like with a scalpel, but these WILL injure you if you're not careful! The hooks are sharp and went through the thick cardboard I tried them on easily. The "blades" are a bit dull, but could easily be sharpened. The hand guards are also sharpened, and a bit sharper then the blades- I cut myself on one of the points! The spikes on the bottom are not going to gouge through someone, but they could easily cause a wound, and if you jam it into someone, it will not be a pleasant experience. Also, I tried the "swinging trick" where you hook them together and swing the other sword around- It really works! A word of caution- you do NOT want to do this in an enclosed area!! Make sure you have plenty of space, and nothing else in about a 10 foot circle around you. Most of the time, you will catch the sword by the handle, but occasionally, you will get hit by the hand guard, so practice with gloves on!!! These are NOT a toy!!! If you hit someone full with the hook, there will be lots and lots of blood, and likely a horrific injury. You can literally butcher somebody with these!! Respect these for what they are: A well made, deadly, efficient pair of weapons!

I purchases these because I am interested in kung fu and tai chi. At first I was worried they might not be very good quality on acount of the price, however I was pleasantly surprised. I would not go as far as saying these are battle ready swords, but they are definitely decent quality practice swords. They are light enough weight to easily go through some practice sets, but have enough weight to them to be a good workout tool. I will probably end up rewrapping the handle as I use it a bit more (I have had these for about a week) as it doesn't seem that secure, however I have not had too much problem so far. I am also rather impressed with the shipping. I have had better (I.e.way earlier than they said it would arrive) however they were right on time, the package was secure, and the box was whole. All in all I recommend this product to anyone interested in starting out, or just dabbling in the art of the tiger hook sword, or just want a decorative piece that they can take down and swing around from time to time.

Though not well suited for using on anything stronger cardboard boxes, they look awesome and if sharpened feel just as nice.

I was, like many, worried that it might be cheaply made because of the price, however this is by far bad. These twin hooks are amazing, and I received them within only a few days of purchase. They are rather sharp, not razor sharp but still sharp enough. When I was unwrapping it, I mistook the blade as dull and started handling it by the blade(as a sword collector, that was stupid of me) and it cut my hand, not bad, but it still did. On another note, when I got them, the blades were a little smudgy but with a little cleaning, they really shine! I love these and I am thoroughly glad I bought them. If your looking for a great pair of twin hooks at a low price, these are the ones you'd want to buy!!!

I have done Shaolin Kung Fu for 6-7 years and I just bought these Tiger hooks because I wanted to learn on my own. These are WAY cheaper than what people usually resell it for, so its a good deal. The tiger hooks should usually go to your shoulder when you hold it a certain way, but these are a bit short for me, i'm 5'7. These are also WAY heavier than your average tiger hooks, normal tiger hooks are less than a pound each but these are pretty heavy. I have no complaints because I got used to the heavy weight for practicing and it actually made my arms, shoulder and back way stronger. I already learned how to use these in a matter of days, although I've already been trained in using a lot of weapons. These may be too heavy and short for a lot of you, so be warned you might end up only having it for decoration instead of practicing, unless thats what you want them for. 30 bucks is a great price for these. The handles are a big rough and hurt your hands but I got used to it, you can buy Athletic tape or Tennis grip and wrap it around the handles so its more comfortable. The grip already on it is sort of like rope or para cord, so its not exactly comfortable. ^^

We ordered these swords for our son's 12th Birthday. He is trained in martial arts and has wanted a set for as long as he could remember. Not only do they look cool, but they are fun to handle. They are weighty, but that is a good thing with a sword of this type. I would not want to swing these bad boys and have them come apart. My husband and son have trimmed the hedges with them, enjoying that little moment of yard work :). They are beautiful and well crafted.

Cheap and durable, however the handles are simply paracord wrapped around plate steel. Simple solution is to buy gloves, such as mountain bike gloves that have padding on the palms. Can't beat the price, so not complaining.

These are not the highest quality blades but I knew that going into it. They are great for the price and look awesome on the wall. As long as that is what you’re intending on using them for, you will be happy!
