D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths : D`Aulaires: desertcart.in: Books Review: A beginner’s guide to Greek Myths - Have you been one of those who have been tormented with endless characters of Greek mythologies, all those weird guys with weird names? Or are you the one who keep messing up Orpheus, Oedipus and odyssey? Or always in a dilemma as to who copulated with who and what came out of whom? Which creature killed which hero or which hero did what? Fear not for there comes a solution- D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths. This book is your ultimate guide to the basics of Greek myths explained in the simplest fashion (well because it is originally a children’s book meant for about kids of 8-13 yr range, …but hey whatever works man !) The book is your “Greek mythology for Dummies” and by the end of the book you will be able to tell the difference between Heracles, Perseus, Theseus and Jason. Plus it has got pictures a lots of them The language is kept under control so as not to pollute the young minds and believe me when it comes to Greek mythology, there is nothing that can go without sounding raunchy. It’s filled with all the exciting stiff, rape, kidnapping, lust, treachery, adultery, inter familial relationship and breeding and all other cool stuffs. So you have to give it to the authors for bringing all these out in a fairy tale fashion without all the creepiness making you squirm All the major incidents and gods have been discussed and in a manner that you will be able to get a clearer and sharp picture of Greek myths, gods and heroes. Plus you will also learn that half of the Olympians were misogynist, rapist and murders and moreover big time flirts. But come what may. There has nothing that has hold my interest and passion as much as Greek mythology. I have always been fascinated by it and always will be. The problem with Greek mythology is that there are lots of versions floating around and nobody knows which one is false and which one true. So this book is what you can say the best possible and closest to the Greek mythology. What is even interesting is that they have gone about the myths in a sequential order starting with the very beginning of this world. So if you have no clue about Greek mythology, this book will help you learn it from the scratch Review: Greek mythology - This book is quite loud and printed in big letters for easy reading Many a time I found english quite rustic and lacked a smooth flow maybe due to translations Still the content is what I like most Right from childhood these stories had an enchanting appeal as many characters are used by us in our common parlance without knowing the real story behind it Overall it is a good read and I found the book to be of an unwieldy size

Buy it!!
This was a book that I got when i was around 9. I loved it then. When my daughter got to that age, I picked it up for her too. She loves it. It's a great book with beautiful illustration. Should be with every child that loves mythology.

Stories 5/10, pictures 10/10
That's my 10yo boy's review. We have our own myths and their books so this book has a lot of competition.

Must have!
One of best books- definitely must have! My 8 year old really love this and has read it many times. It is very easy to read and understand. My son also uses this book as reference guide, since a lot of stories/ movies are based on Greek mythology.

We absolutely loved this book! My son had to order it for a Greek mythology class and we read through it together. The stories were captivating and fun to read. It was fascinating to learn how many of the common phrases we use today come from Greek Mythology, and learning their origin was so interesting. This book was a nice big book and had lots of great pictures to bring the stories to life on an even greater level. Highly recommend for kids and all ages!

I loved reading D’alulares Greek Mythology, this book blends fiction with truth so well that it creates a great series for short stories into a nicely compiled book. The illustrations are also awesome. It’s great ti see the history of Greece through these myths. If you’re fancied by any-type of mythology, this is a must read.
