I was tending to an irritated cyst on my back (seems the older I get, the more things erupt, break or fall off), and I was told to put warm wet compresses on the area for 15-20 minutes at a time, a few times a day... and the rest of the instructions are icky, so I'll stop there. Well, my homemade method of using a warm wet washcloth wasn't staying warm for more than 5 minutes, and I wasn't going to risk wrapping an electric heating pad with a wet towel (all of me would erupt!). So I ordered this, microwaved it for 30 seconds (plus a few more), wrapped an already warm (from the faucet) washcloth around it, and it stayed warm for about 15 minutes. Two days of that, and what I needed it to do -- it did. Again, it's icky. But it did work. And now I have a small heating pad (or ice pack) for the next problem.

Only can heat this for a minute and it doesn’t stay warm very long but I like the size. It’s good for using at work

Didnt come with strap to hold in place. Awkward. After few heatings it split in microwave. A mess.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go this route because of some of the reviews, but my back pain insisted I do something, so here we are. I use it for a heating pad and it works wonders! Imo, it's worth every penny. I just wish I had gotten the bigger size or a second one, because while this is great for spot heating, it's not great for large area back coverage. Be careful on how you heat it up, there are clear instructions but everyone's microwave isn't the same. I personally heat it up for 30 seconds, take it out and shake it up, then I put it back in there for another 20 seconds, and that gives me extreme heat for my lower back. Careful of what side you apply to your skin if you're heat sensitive. HOWEVER, watch it while it's heating up, because while these are little gel beads in there... there is AIR inside as well, and heated air EXPANDS. If you're not paying attention, you could easily leave it in the microwave for too long and it could pop / hurt someone. It's a bit of trial and error to find what works for you heat wise and finding the right amount of seconds to set on your personal microwave, but just remember to pay attention to it while you're heating it up, and apply it felt side down first and you'll be fine!

This is exactly what I needed. The size is perfect for small areas where regular heating pads are bulky and awkward and hot water bottles are too heavy.

Excellent product so far. I've been using it for the last week & a half mainly after heating in microwave but also after freezing it as well. No problems.
