SO WELL DESERVING ALL THE ACCLAIM
Drama intensifies as dynasties totter and threaten to fall. Increasingly come ominous threats from the North, vast armies assembling and poised to invade - possibly to destroy the dynasties that remain. Season 5 is packed with excitement and intrigue, sequences that horrify and enthral. En route are characters with scores to settle (often most bloodily), deaths to applaud, others to regret, and at least one greatly to shock.Again talents have converged to produce one of television's most acclaimed offerings. What a tribute to writers and cast, that people portrayed are not swamped by the truly spectacular special effects! Tyrion never fails to impress, he now a fugitive facing danger at every turn. Queen Daenerys fears rebellion. Sansa Stark suffers in the hands of sadistic Ramsay (he one to hiss if ever there was). Jon Snow agonizes over how best to protect the South, unwelcome alliances vital if there is to be any hope. These are just a few of those whose fortunes (and misfortunes) are depicted here. All the way through concern is great, viewers knowing so well from previous seasons that so much can happen out of the blue, seemingly key characters suddenly slaughtered.Ten episodes, all of them thrilling - especially the last three. Twelve commentaries (which, of course, some episodes have two). Generous bonuses. Of special interest are ones describing what inspired the original novels - atrocities committed in Scottish feuds, then all the treachery and changing alliances found in The War of the Roses. (Be advised at least one bonus feature on Disc 4 contains spoilers about dramatic events on Disc 5.All in all, salute here Premier League fare.(No prizes for guessing I am one of the millions totally hooked, Season 6 already on order.)

Excitement keeps building up with each season!
Dan Weiss and David Benioff never disappoint. The stakes are much higher this season as the remaining chess players continuously scheme and try to outmaneuver each other in the Game of Thrones. The cast made another solid performance in bringing out the characters while the production crew delivered and surpassed their previous seasons' work. No wonder it won 12 Emmy awards in 2015 including 'Outstanding Drama series'. Just like the past seasons' releases, the technical merits of the show are very evident in the BD set's video and audio quality. I have chosen to get the Amazon UK set for its exclusive bonus disc on special features this time and have no regrets doing so; it has ample contents to quench my thirst for behind the scenes extras and top off those already included in disc 4.Can't wait to purchase the 6th season's set from Amazon UK next year!

Disappointing
Disappointing as little seemed to happen in the whole series. I don't understand what the stuff with Arya is about, but at least Stannis Baratheon has got his just deserts. But when will the nasty Boltons get theirs. John Snow never cracked a smile, and too many zombies if by another name. I might not even bother with series 6, boring, and Daenarys is now just a politician.

Not the best series of Thrones but still better than most other things on TV.Was a bit disappointed with the packaging quality (hence the 4 stars). In that; the "Blu-Ray tab" along the top edge of the box has come unstuck and is starting to fall apart a little. If you can get a steel book equivalent for the same price, go with that as the cardboard packaging won't last.Still an epic show though.

Pretty packaging but poor quality discs.
The packaging is very elaborate and attractive. Unfortunately the discs don't play too well. They don't sit well in the box either. The show itself is brilliant but it gets frustrating when you have to tussle with the equipment in order to watch it.
