This is an outstanding cleaver and an outstanding value. Very heavy duty and very effective for the purposes for which it was designed. As the product description states, it isn't for fine cutting, i.e., it isn't a knife for cutting vegetables or for carefully trimming meat. As such, it is heavy and a bit unwieldy for many cutting tasks. But do not forget: IT'S A CLEAVER. Some reviewers have commented on its sharpness. In thinking about whether or not it will meet your needs, consider its primary function: to cleave food containing bones. It's not a knife, per se, and shouldn't be thought of that way. That's why it isn't super sharp right out of the box. If it was thinner and sharper, it wouldn't be an effective cleaver because the thin, sharp edge would likely break when it contacted bone with a lot of momentum and mass behind it. (Read reviews for the thinner, sharper cleavers offered elsewhere on Amazon and you'll see what I mean.) For me, this is an excellent kitchen tool that excels at what it was intended to do and is offered at an outstanding price, making it an outstanding value. If you know how to use a cleaver, this will meet your needs beautifully.

well built meat cleaver/ meat chopper. well balanced handle , good grip and sharp, Word of CAUTION, this is a good chopper, requires careful handling, please take care when using, cuts well and is of good quality

I really love this knife. I am just scared to death of it. Its weight is very impressive. I can chop through anything ANYTHING with ease. Which is why I am incredibly careful with it. I feel like if I ever drop this thing, I could lose a toe, or half a foot before I can even blink. If you really need a good bone chopper, or campsite cleave-all, this is your mighty weapon of choice. Just make sure you have a very safe way to handle and store it.

The materials and workmanship are great. It has a good fitting hardwood handle and is easy to use. It wasn't all that sharp when it came but other than that I highly recommend this chopper.

I got it 3.5 years ago, I use it to break down whole pork loin chine bones, so not used regularly. Each time I use it I clean it thoroughly and dry it fully, then store it in the original packaging and box. It’s pretty much just as received, and the edge is still sharpe with no dings or chips. With care it’s great, however I cannot speak to high use, but I would expect it would do fine with care and edge maintenance. At the price point a good value.

The balance could be better and the blade isn’t sharp enough. Once the blade was sharpened then the material was too soft for cutting through bones.

The price can’t be beat, very good value and quality. Very sharp and cut through Polk Ribs easily. The weight of the knife is just right, not too heavy.

My mother likes it.

What more can you say, it's a cleaver, just make sure little kids are not around when using it, I dropped mine by accident, would have chopped my foot off, if not for safety boots I was wearing at the time, had it been a little-toed barefoot kid, that foot would have been gone. So yeah it's damn sharp right out of the box. It's very well weighted for what it has to do, and makes chopping less fatiguing. The handle is a good length, and fits in the hand well. I liked the wood handle.

The cleaver arrived quickly and it looks to be solidly made. It's a bit big - looks like a full sized hatchet in my hands - but certainly would work well on ribs and would slice down turkeys easily. That is - IF it came sharpened. It did not. It's all set to be sharpened, but definitely has not been sharpened yet. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I was expecting it to be ready for use.

Great cleaver for the price. Has been great in breaking down chickens, duck and turkey.
