Q: Songes cost more than $1 each these days?

I cut mine in half with a pair of scissors. The 1/2 size is perfect for me.

The sponges are 1 1/2 inches thick and 4 1/4 by 2 1/2 inches.

Q: Are these equal or better than sos/brillo scrubbing pads?

They aren't the same, but I do love how they work. I would say better, more multi use then sos/brillo

Q: Can you use on smooth top stove

I see no reason why not. It causes no issues when using on glass whatsoever. We use it on our stainless steel, which is much softer than glass, with no issues whatsoever.
