How can you even connect the fuel filter when the attachment for the 20 pound tank is a quick disconnect?

The Big Buddy models can use the F271803 hose/regulator with the QD (that it seems you have). That hose doesn't need the "filter" since it only has low pressure gas that's about as high a pressure as you blowing in a hose. The real reason for this filter is for high pressure hoses where oils in the rubber get "squeezed" out under 100 psi and those oils will mess up the heater. The only high pressure hose to not need the filter is F273704 made of "oil-free" materials (and that may cost a few more bucks, but eliminates this as well as an extra leak point etc.) So regulated hoses don't need it, just high pressure hoses with the "disposable tank" connection like this has.

Can these be used with a 1# canister instead of a hose to a tank? Don't impurities in the 1# canisters also affect the Portable Buddy after awhile?

It has been my experience that the 1# canisters do not plug up the orifice. The hose on the 20# are the problem. They give off an oil that plugs the orifice. The filter is a must to use with the hose. I even refill the 1#ers with the 20#ers and have had no problems with contanination yet. I have been using buddy heaters for 15 years now with and without the hose.

Can this be used with a hose that is not made by mr. heater and still filter out the contaminants for my portable buddy and big buddy heaters?

Yes, you'll want this for any high pressure hose on those heaters except the F273704 hose. The F273704 hoses is made of "oil-free" materials, but most other hoses with rubbers will have oils that get "Squeezed" out under high pressure and the oils mess up the heater. Mr Heater may say "Unauthorized use of other products will void warranty" but hoses with the " Disposable tank" connection can work. The "Big Buddy" units can accept low pressure gas thru the QD port (with a regulator/hose like F271803), but only that model has it. Low pressure gas doesn't "squeeze" oils out, so no need for filter with it.

I'm using a 20lb tank. Does this go on the tank or the heater end?

At the heater, it screws right in. Filters out the oils in the hose between tank and heater. A MUST have add-on. Works as advertised.

Must have if using 20 gallon tank

Works well. Attached straight to the heater and allowed me to connect the hose to a 20 gallon tank. It included a plastic protector on the pin for protection as well.

Works great for a long time!

I have been using this filter occasionally every winter, and it still works after 12 years. Supposedly I should change it every year, but I will just use it until it clogs up :)

MUST BUY.

Before I thought waist the money but after 4-5 months use line clogged. I was lucky to fire up again but spend hours in 5 days. Little by little first few second next try 5 second and so on. After 10-20 attempt you need to let it sit like an hour to allow the oil to leak back to bottom of line and fire again with smoke. Keep hand lighter ready because easy to fire the lid. YOU MUST BUY if you don't want to tear in a part and clean up every time clocks.

I bought this and the compatible oiless hose to connect my mr buddy heater to a 6kg calor gas propane bottle. It works perfect. Definitely the best and safest heater for use indoors ( bivvy ).

si compras un calenton buddy recomiendo ponerle un filtro de gas para evitar que el aceite que trae el gas LP o butano tape lo conductos de tu calenton buddy y deje de funcionar , si no le pones filtro dura un año y se tapa , si le pones filtro de gas te dura mas de 3 años sin fallas
