Q: can you use the chair on hardwood floors

The wheels are standard hard plastic with 2 wheels mounted on each of the 5 "legs" or spokes of the chair. The chair will roll easily on hardwood but the floor finish will wear over time. If it is a concern, replacement wheels that are similar to in line skate wheels will roll more easily and help to prevent wear of the floor finish.

Q: Backrest hieght does not stay, just falls back down. Anyone else ?

Same. Chair would be worth it, but the back just won't stay clicked and there's no way around it.

Q: Can you rock smoothly back and forth in this chair, or does it have a limited range of motion?

Yes. There are 3 switches and a knob. The switches each lock or release a different adjustment. The switch on the left is for adjusting the angle of the backrest. When it is released, the backrest can rock back and forth, from about 90 degrees to about 130 degrees. The knob on the bottom right twists to adjust the tension of the backrest hinge. Depending on how heavy or tall you are, this is helpful to prevent bumping too hard against the limit of the recline. The switches on the right are for height adjustment and sliding the seat back and forth.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum seat height?

From the top of the seat cushion minimum is about 17" and maximum is 20". The travel distance is 3". Hope this helps you.
