Purchased for Weaving, and what a great tool!!!
As a flutist in my youth, I knew these rods were like a long, blunted needle with a large eye. I purchased 2 flute cleaning rods for a very special purpose - to use as a weaving needle. They are wonderful! In a particular style of loom weaving I enjoy, I needed something about a foot long (the rod is 14.25"), with an eye that would accommodate bulky fibers and yarns (the eye is 0.75" in length, and 0.25" in width). The very best part about this cleaning rod is that the end where the eye hole is is flattened, and therefore is much thinner (compared to the one I have that was delivered years ago with my flute purchase). I was unaware this end would be thinner when I ordered these, but what a pleasant surprise! This helps me as a weaver because the pick-up of the warp on a flat loom (without a shed or heddle) is much easier. Weavers may ask why I didn't just buy a small shuttle, or a weaving needle (usually wooden). I didn't want a shuttle because I do not need to carry that much fiber/yarn. And these rods are way less expensive than a wooden weaving needle. These rods are perfect for my use. I am so glad I found them. This review won't help most purchasers, but I am still very excited and glad to share it.

Works well with thin cloth to clean moisture from inside flute
I personally just don't like the plastic rod so purchased this steel cleaning rod which works well with a thin cloth to clean moisture from my flute. I recommend. Excellent quality and fit.

Perfect rod for cleaning your flute
Exactly as pictured, nice and sturdy- came quickly. Perfect and correct rod for cleaning your flute. Make sure your cloth is long enough to wrap around the whole rod so you don't scratch the inside of your flute

Great replacement
A friend had lost the rod to clean her flute and when I was searching for some new cleaning cloths, I came upon this one. The plastic variety were cheaper but didn't look like they would hold up. This one seems quite sturdy and is a good replacement for the rod that originally came with the flute. My friend is happy, so I am too.

Check the stopper placement in the head joint
This replaced the cleaning rod that had been lost. The cork in the flute head joint over time may dry out and start to move. The cleaning rod has a little line engraved approx. 17.3mm from the end to set the distance of the cork stopper face from the center of the embouchure hole.

Works well, had a rough end
Good for flute swab, but had a rough spot on the handle that seemed like it might scratch the flute -- my son taped it

This is a solid steel rod which, unlike plastic, will not break
I was hoping that the rod would not be too flimsy. I didn't have to worry - the rod is solid steel and will not break. There is no comparison with the plastic swab I had before. There is no reason to pay about the same for plastic when steel is available.
