This halter makes my dog pay attention, but it's a bit tricky to get on her
We have a rescued, 4-year-old 42-pound purebred American Foxhound who was never trained on a leash. She pulls constantly on a leash attached to her collar, and because her head and neck are so slender, she can get out of most collars and vests. This halter, recommended by a random stranger I had a conversation with, keeps her attention when it pulls. She does not appear to be in any pain and stops pulling to avoid discomfort. However, it's a bit of a mess to get on her and the moving pads can slide off.

We finally enjoy our runs!
I didn’t see any reviews on using this for running, so I decided to be very detailed. Hope this helps: Our untrainable cave dog has more energy than memory and more heart than brains. She had uncontrollable amounts of energy with unprompted zoomies that would rearrange furniture and literally endanger children, lamps, delicious beverages. I decided to start taking her on runs in the mornings while the vet took her sweet time trying to come up with a chemical concoction that would help. She LOVED our runs (the dog, not the vet)… however, she loved them so much that it made everything much worse. On days when the sun would start to come up and she was figuring out that I wasn’t leaving for work, she would cry and bark and crash into doors and walls and furniture, and everything would crescendo until I could get myself together enough to get her out the door. When we’d finally get going, she would pull so hard that she’d choke herself and sometimes even throw up, and it was beating my body absolutely apart. THE PULLING…! I’m 200 lbs, but she would literally pull me so hard that my feet would slam into the ground, giving me impact injuries and choking her violently. I had to go only one route so that the first mile was straight uphill to try to exhaust her enough to make it even possible to run a few miles. We’d frequently come back with her paws bloody from pulling. When we’d see other animals, all chaos would break loose; I’d often have to change course to keep her from other dogs in the distance. Harnesses rubbed her pits into bloody rawness. The prong collar was a torture device. At one point, she saw a squirrel on an icy sidewalk and pulled me down, breaking my hand. I tried everything—calming her first, walking first, reading articles for advice; harnesses, running shoes, running boots, running pads; prayer, screaming, disciplining (not in that order); forget training, there’s no getting through to her—and even as determined as I was to continue letting her enjoy our runs, I seriously debated not taking her anymore. But then again on days when I’d be off and couldn’t take her, just hours of barking and crying and standing at the door and jumping on furniture and abusing guests would ensue. ENTER THIS HALTER: it is just entirely too good to be true. Even as excited as she is, as soon as she starts to pull and it tightens, she backs off just to where it is snug and the lead is taut again. She prances out in front of me with her head up instead of legs and neck wrenched down to the ground scraping and clawing with me dragging in tow. She barks almost gleefully when we take off like she’s excited instead of like she’s about to beat me to death and murder whatever wildlife is in her path. I can’t imagine this thing working this well on every dog, but for the combined prices I paid on shoes so she wouldn’t bleed, harnesses, and other crap that didn’t work, along with the beating my body took PLUS the sheer frustration—I bet my neighbors and other folks on the running path think I’m crazy for the fits I’d throw, especially before she’d exhaust and suffocate herself in the first mile. This harness is comfy under her pits with its fleecy sleeves, and connects on her back instead of chest; it slows her by tightening around the tops of her front legs and reminding her with gentle pressure, instead of choking like collars or tripping like harnesses or inflicting pain like prongs. For all the things I ordered, this fit the best as well, just easy to use and adjustable to her 100 lb. bodice. Also good to see: when we get back, she isn’t covered in foamy slobber because she can breath while we’re running. She catches her breath now when we stop and rests right about when we get home because she isn’t panicking for air. If I have to be at all critical: while I haven’t had any issues with this, I would think it could be a LITTLE more substantial for the connectors, the spring clips, and the lightweight string (like a lace lanyard) on the back for such a powerful dog; however, again, no issues with durability so far, and I’d buy 10 more, even if it ever did break. She still tries to run out in front of cars, still chases squirrels and other dogs and people on scooters, still pulls (albeit much more gently), but her and all her energy on runs, before runs, after runs, and just in general is so much more controlled. I’m not just satisfied; I’m thankful! All this, and it was night and day on our VERY FIRST RUN that we used it. Highly highly highly recommended!UPDATE: I noticed after several runs that it was rubbing her back where the harness sat on her back. I took a thick, insulated, winter sock, and I cut a hole in the middle and cut the foot portion of the sock off. I ran the lace material and collar clips through the ends and the lace material out the middle hole. This did the trick. On an updated design, I would add a sleeve for the top portion like what goes under the arm pits. Other than that, it’s still a bin win!

A Valuable Tool for the Pulling Pup
My mutt, Maggie, is a 50 lbs ball of energy, and unfortunately, her leash manners are practically nonexistent. With a typical collar, she pulls constantly. In an attempt to curb this behavior, I tried a gentle leader type harness (one that goes over the snout), and she hated the thing! Granted, it was an off brand so I can't speak for the actual Gentle Leader, but the construction was poor, and kept riding up and covering her eyes. Seeing Maggie's discomfort discouraged me from trying the Gentle Leader. My sister, who is tiny at 100 lbs, found the Sporn Pet Halter which allowed her actually walk her young, strong, 80 lbs american bulldog mix, that was too strong of a puller for her to control on walks. Knowing how well this worked for her, I figured it would be perfect for me! Now, on to the review...PositivesMaggie took to it very well. The padded straps that go behind her arms seem very comfortable, and she does not scratch or bite at them at all.It is incredibly effective! I won't say that it is a magic cure to bad leash manners, but she no longer pulls on the leash. We still have to work on her walking at the end of the leash, but the pulling has stopped!Positive or Negative?I don't have any issues with putting on or taking off the halter, but my fiance gave up pretty quickly! I can see how it may be confusing at first, but I've got my system that works well for me.I think this would work best with a retractable leash. The leash connects to the end of a long loop that tightens behind the arms. That loop, which needs to stay above and behind the collar, has a tendency to go where it's not supposed to be- either in front of the neck or under the arms when the leash doesn't stay taught.NegativesThe padded straps do grab and hold loose fur pretty well, so they look gross after a few wears. But, that's not something I'm concerned with, just figured I'd shareThere is a little Sporn tag, on the collar part of the halter, that is held on by a weak, thin ring. The ring would catch on the rope of the straps and pull threads loose. This could potentially cause some major issues with the integrity of the straps, but I was able to catch it before too much damage was done. If you decide to purchase this halter, I would highly suggest just taking the ring and tag off.ConclusionAll in all, I would definitely suggest this to anyone who needs help with a puller, simply because of its effectiveness. The two biggest issues I have are the tag/ring, and the necessity of a retractable leash. The tag issue is easily fixed, but I don't much like retractable leashes. I have been using mine for the two months that I have had it, with a regular leash, and although it is a bit annoying, the fact that I don't have to fight with the pulling makes the inconvenience worth it to me.

My dog is happier!
I don't know if this will work well with all dogs but it is phenomenal with my bouvier. I was using a pinch collar. She is a very well trained dog but with this collar we team even better. She doesn't resist her collar and pull on me and I am experiencing us communicating better. She also doesn't do the zoomies for ten minutes when I pull out her leash. Instead she walks over and puts her head in the collar. So I am pretty sure she is happier too. I do not know if I will need to replace this more often or not so I can not yet review the sturdiness and durability of this product. Regardless I will buy another because I can not believe what a big difference the small change of this more appropriate product has made in our overall connection.

Didn’t work for my dog.
I see many reviewers say it worked great for them but unfortunately not for me. In the photo I attached, my little dog is using all his strength to move forward because there was something in the grass he liked (that I let him sniff for a couple minutes but it was time to keep moving lol). Unfortunately I will be returning if I can.

Works well
It does work for the most part. I mean he still pulls but can be pulled up a lot easia. because it’s not around his neck he doesn’t choke himself. Puppy staffy in training.Would recommend

Excellent product. A good buy! The buckles night present some issues over the long term.
This harness is amazing.... I bought size medium for my miniature Schnauzer. She is 1 and has a lot of energy and loves going for walks and used to pull like crazy. From the first time I put it on it worked amazing. We both now enjoy our walks even more and she seems to just really like it. She wasn't scared or sore from it as I didn't have to put it too tight for her to get the point. My only request would be to make the covering for under the legs to extend the full length as it would cover those metal buckles at the top a bit better....and instead of the metal buckles maybe just make them a softer material for the comfort of our doggies. She wasn't sore but I could see how overtime the buckles may cause a little soreness.

Great concept, poor quality and guarantee
After putting on my lab who pulls constantly during walks, she hated it. Before I had a chance to attach the leash, she had bit through the strap that loops under her leg. I made a knot in the rope and decided to take her for a walk anyway to try it out. It was great at keeping her from pulling and the walk went well. Unfortunately, the guarantee from the company does not cover biting! Really watch that your dog doesn't bite the fabric as it is thin.

I finally enjoy walking my dog!!
This product is amazing!! I have an 11-month old Vizsla and he pulls on the leash. This is a high energy breed with a high prey drive and I was loathing taking him for a walk. Then someone told me about the Sporn Halter. I watched the video and was delighted to see a Vizsla in the video. After seeing the price I figured even if it didn't work I wouldn't be out that much and at that point we were desperate!! I am SO happy I decided to try this halter it works so well. Walking my dog is now a pleasure rather than a chore! Which means we both get more exercise and we are both so much happier. Do yourself a favour and buy this halter, you won't be disappointed!I will say I was a little concerned that it may be a little complicated to get on but after the first couple of times my dog now realizes it means we are going for a walk and he's a lot more cooperative through his excitement.I will happily buy another if this one ever breaks or wears out!
