Updated 11/2025 with more info. This gel with belt clip is still fantastic. This gel, like most on the market, with the same size and look canister, uses a patented made in USA design the big brand invented. Flip the tab up (carefully) and you’ll see the patent stamp on the thumb rest. There are not many players in this market as far as production in the USA. Spray (opposed to gel) can easily be blown right back into your face and makes you even more vulnerable than you were in the first place. It does not take a windy day to be affected by your own spray. Gel is absolutely the way to go. Another must is the built in clip for your belt or pocket edge. Avoid the nylon holster or sheath with a flap option. If you’re using this for defending you and/or your animals when out on walks, you’re not going to have time to open the sheath, pull the canister out from the elastic pouch holding it in, and still be able to protect you or your animals in time. By using the molded belt clip design, a single hand can go right to the canister without looking down and fiddling with a pouch with a flap on it. This allows you to visually evaluate the threat (crucial period of time) while simply getting the canister off your belt or pocket edge with one hand. Your other hand is holding your leash and controlling your dog. Aggressive dogs and other threats can come out from nowhere. I can say with confidence (25 years in law enforcement) every second counts. I am responsible and keep my two dogs in quality harnesses and leashes. Yes, they are protective of me. That’s that they do. But I can control my dogs. They will not free themselves from the harnesses. The leash is threaded around my leather belt and then my hand. I have had several occasions where irresponsible owners of aggressive dogs either don’t bother to properly harness and leash their dogs, don’t responsibly keep their garage closed, or most commonly for me, they don’t responsibly secure their side gates. Always visually scan the area you are in. It’s not a time to play on your phone. If you have a dangerous situation and conclude you must use the gel, the charging dog gets a focused stream of this stuff to the face. The effect is not 100% immediate. It may take up to one or two seconds for the offending dog to realize they are not feeling so comfy anymore. The dog will typically dart towards grass or dirt to seek relief. This is not a toy. This is to save you and/or your animals from harm. After the gel is deployed, if the dog is still lingering, I use a quality flashlight with a direct to strobe function to further disorient the threatening animal while getting out of there asap. To further protect myself, I wear a very inexpensive clip on body camera that’s recording during every walk, but that’s your call. Don’t forget this particular formula has UV dye in it. The gel and very uncomfortable experience the threatening animal feels goes away after a period of time. The UV dye will remain temporary should you face a circumstance where you want extra proof of what took place. A UV light is cheap. Let authorities know about the UV dye and keep a cheap UV light just in case. Be very aware of your local laws/regulations regarding OC possession and use. Again, this is not a toy. I can end with this.. I always do everything I can to avoid using it, but when I have no choice, it definitely helps. Remember to use the belt clip design and clip it opposite of the hand holding the leash so there is minimal wasted time. ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. Not a time for phone or high volume music. Those senses need to be evaluating the area you are in. Your pooch is depending on you. Be safe.

Works great! Not much. Pretty much a one time use

I had a guy try to attack me because I accused him of theft which he actually did and I was ready just in case and I emptied the can using several squirts or streams which amounted to probably 5 times and I still think there is one dose left in it. I hit him mostly in the face but he covered up after the first 2 so I am not sure how much got on him as he was wearing a coat. If possible aim for the face and especially the eyes for better results. This is the smallest size of pepper spray I would keep for protection as it has limited range (compared to the larger size) but it does do the job very well in close quarters. I like this brand and I even have the larger size which is like over $50. You will not go wrong with this and it is easy to clip on your clothes or belt but if you are concerned with someone wanting to cause you harm then it is good to keep it very handy as it will do no good unless you are ready to use it and do not hesitate if you feel threatened. I did not warn the guy as I just used it so be careful during an altercation. The best advice is "Be Prepared" Good Luck PS. Always have an exit strategy.

The description states 1 oz., but the cannisters I received were labelled 1.59 oz.--the same as a more expensive brand. I also find the cannisters to be a great size for carrying--4" tall x 1.5" wide. They fit very comfortably in my hand and in almost any pocket. They are a lot more "firepower" than the smaller conventional 0.5 ounce cans, but still unobtrusive to carry. I have not fired the pepper gel so cannot speak to its range or potency, but I feel confident carrying this. Also, the hinged cap over the spray button is very easy to lift with my thumb but provides nice protection against accidental discharges.

Haven't had to use this on anyone yet but I'm sure it will do the job.
