New Balance Men's MX623v2 Cross-Training Shoe

I've used to be happy with the New Balance MX623. I've had 8 pairs, replacing them only every so often. Then, New Balance did something to cheapen up this last pair. My latest pair looks as though they are using different materials. The MX623 shoe now has serious flaws.. I noticed the first small rip while walking on a level sidewalk on the third day of wearing them. I think that the shoe is unraveling and ripping more as I use it. My life has not been the same.The seams are essentially open at the toe both at the instep and out-step. Now there are three rips in the front of the shoe; and the inside wall sticking out. People at work now think I am either very cheap or very foolish for having a broken shoe without replacing it. When I went outside today, a homeless man offered me money to get new shoes. And my significant other said to me yesterday that she would work another job to pay for a new pair of shoes if we are really that destitute. Since I have to work late the stores are often closed by the time my shift ends. It's been a nuisance because I have not been able to replace the shoes on the weekend yet.After writing this comment, I realize that the time has come to get a different style of shoe. If I were to rate the last few pairs of MX623 shoes, they would have been 4 or 5 stars. Now that they've cheapened them up I will probably never buy another pair. Now I have to find a new favorite type of shoe.

There's nothing wrong with these shoes per say. They fit alright, and they're comfortable enough. However, they remind me of my old Vans from years ago. There's a lot of shoe going on. Now that I look more closely at the picture, you can sort of see what I'm talking about. The bottom of the shoe is really high, and the soles are thick. The tongue is thick. This is not the tennis shoe I was hoping for, and unless you really look at the pictures knowing what to look for, they can be kind of misleading. I'm really not sure how this can be considered a cross trainer. For more casual purposes, it'll be fine with jeans, but you definitely would not wear these with shorts--it would look really strange and bulky.

I ordered these to use for everyday shoes, including for long, fast walks. I had a hip replacement about 6 months ago and was concerned that the cushioning in my old pair of New Balance was no longer thick enough. I am particularly concerned about the possibility that a lack of cushioning might shorten the life of my hip implant because I tend to pound when I walk.I ordered the navy blue, and they look quite nice and fit comfortably. (I have very wide feet, and men's EEEE fit me best.) I gather that running shoes have better padding than cross training shoes, but I was still surprised by how little padding these shoes have for the balls of the feet. When I finish with an exercise walk, I feel like my feet can tell I've been pounding the pavement, literally. I don't recall this experience with running shoes I have worn.

I was replacing a worn pair of the previous 623's. These are even more comfortable than the previous model & those were great as well. I wear an 11 EEEE & New Balance is the only brand that has a decent selection in that width. The generous padding on the tongue & top of the shoe is especially welcome because I have a high instep & I have trouble finding shoes that are still comfortable when snugging up the laces. It feels like the shoe is custom made for my foot.

Toe box is tight and the inside upper of the shoe split from the sole in 6 months. Buy a 1/2 size bigger.

I'm sixty years old and have exercised since 1965 and have owned dozens of running shoes, walking shoes, and cross-trainers from all kinds of companies, and these are the most comfortable, best-looking ones to date! (I bought gray in 11.5) So nice are they, in fact, I've decided to use them for casual wear rather than for my early-morning walks. Right out of the box they fit like the proverbial glove. So if you're looking for an excellent pair of walking/running/cross-trainers, your search is over! :-)

Used for 75 miles of walking. Outer material still clean. Laces still white. Tread is gone. Ankle support destroys my skin; blisters galore. Not sure what they did to the design. Stay away.
