Which version would be best for adult English language learners?

The answer depends on the level of your students, but I've found that most ELL teachers seem to go for the Kids edition, even when teaching adults (everyone is a kid, after all). Here's why:The font is a little larger and crisper than Classic, and the cards are a little brighter. Subtle things like that can make a difference for an ELL student. Conceptually, here's a difference between Classic and Kids: Classic has the card "something is wrong with the water," which can be a serious problem. Kids has "mermaids in swimming pool," which is a fun, silly problem. Similarly, Classic has "large wild animal" and Kids has "befriended by hippo." I've heard from ELL teachers that the consistently upbeat nature of the Kids edition helps students from "overthinking" language. To quote one ELL teacher (and Kids fan) I met at the National Council of Teachers of English, "When my students are laughing, their English comes out easier and more naturally."All of that being said, the Classic edition may be just right for your group. In that case, I suggest you go through the cards in advance and use the ones that will meet and challenge your students in ways you can all enjoy. For example, "taxidermist" is a great word, but maybe it's a little too sophisticated for the level of your ELL students at the moment. If that's the case, just take it out for the time being. You'll still have lots and lots of unique cards.Regardless of which you end up choosing, know that both come with a booklet with activities, prompts, and games. Can anyone compare this to "the writer's toolbox" by jamie cat callan, which is better?

Hi Lochlan,Thanks for your question. It’s a tough one to answer, because “Better” is a relative term. One person might find that X helps them. A second person might find that Y is just the thing. And since many prompts and activities complement each other, a third person might find that X, Y, and Z together hit the sweet spot. Amazon’s return policy is quite accommodating, so my suggestion is that you try a couple different things, or maybe even more than a couple, and find what works for you.
