Dual Grit Sharpening Stone
This stone worked just great on my sons super dull knives... I made a good choice here. I also read where some folks are using water for the lubricant and presoaking the stone, so I researched it a good bit and concluded that mineral oil was just fine, so I used mineral oil and it worked out fantastically.. This is a great stone at a decent price for those very dull tools.

excellect value
This is an excellent sharpening stone. I needed it to polish a katana sword and it worked beautifully. I also use it to sharpen kitchen cleavers and santoku knives. Not a very hard grit stone but rather soft and fine which does good job for honing. The two grit sides show wavering in the middle making the different grits mix. As this is in the middle shoudln't matter but the first time I have seen this. I have another stone that is combination but is much harder, rougher, that has perfectly aligned middle so that is what I am accostumed to. All in all great purchase and very pleased. Update: I bought a second one and it is a different grit. The first one was 400/600 this one is 120/240. That is TOO coarse for knife sharpening. Sharping stones that are $15-$20 are overpriced. Maybe $8 for a good kitchen stone but no more. Amazon sellers seem to be gouging customers by overcharging or including gimmicks like holders. I clicked the buy again when my old one wore out. It was dirty from sword sharpening and I needed something cleaner for my kitchen knives. I feel as though I have been switch and baited. It is not the same product I bought before. This stone will remove too much metal and leave a scratchy surface. Honestly when companies and online marketplaces get a reputation for shady practices it is usually a sign of bad management. I don't think Amazon will last longer if products continually upcharge. Further I do not think it is honest to hock expensive sharpening "systems" and oils when a cheap 600 grit stone works fine. Ridiculously high grit stones seem to be aimed at naive rich people. It is not the standard reliable quality that I am used to seeing in supermarkets.

Nothing is wrong with this sharpening stone
I have somewhat, advanced knowledge of sharpening knives and hand tools. This sharpening stone (if you read on the package) is designed to sharpen hand tools, axes, gardening hoes, pruning sheers etc. If you are looking to put a fine honed polished edge on a fine pocket knife, there are stones produced and designed for that type of sharpening also. Those sharpening stones are a bit more costly, than the $5.75 tool sharpener as we are speaking of. Smiths poduces, in my opinion, the finest sharpening kit for your pocket knives. These kits made by Smiths also contain a honing solution to keep your sharpening stones clean and in tip top shape. AS for this tool sharpener clogging, it needs to be scrubbed with soap and water with a stiff brush, from time to time. I hope this info will help those who are just beginning to sharpen, tools, knives etc. All you need is the right sharpening stone for instrument, that needs sharpening.............................

Great General Purpose Stone
When you feel this stone with your finger you cannot tell the difference from the two sides. When you run a piece of metal over it you can tell the difference. The dark side is the rough side and the light side is the fine side. This stone is large and heavy, which makes sharpening things easier. A lot of people complain about this stone arriving broken. I can understand how this would happen. This stone is heavy and fragile. Fortunately mine arrived perfect.

Arrived broken
This sharpening stone was about what one expected. Except, it came in two parts instead of a usable one piece. :-( It was a little more coarse than I expected. I got it to sharpen a machete, and unfortunately (probably due to my lack of skill and technique) I made it worse. So, all in all, it was a failure. But, hey, the price was right!

The mold that made this wasn't leveled off
For the money I would recommend this product if you enjoy sharpening your knives on a stone. It's the only way I will sharpen any blade I have anymore. It is time consuming, but will get your knives the sharpest they have ever been. My only complaint with this would have to be the fact that it was a pretty lazy manufacturing process. When the mold was formed and subsequently taken out of the mold. It had about 1/32 to 1/16th of a lip of the stone on the long sides of the stone. It didn't make for sharpening very well. In fact it dulled my blades until the edges were knocked down. I fixed it by knocking the burrs down with some heavier grit sandpaper then going back and sharpening the knives. It took me about 2 hours to get it just right. But for the price, you can't beat it. Based on that I gave it a 3 star rating instead of anything lower.

I purchased this stone to practice sharpening and to fix a set of badly damaged old chisels. The grit is very low (coarse) on both sides and the material is somewhat soft but it removed material. I was unable to obtain a sharp edge using such a coarse grit but I was able to reshape them nicely. I followed up by putting the final cutting edge on with a Speedy Sharp (available on Amazon and at Can Tire) and the chisels are usable again. Would not use this on my wife’s expensive kitchen knives but would not hesitate to use this stone on garden tools. Considering the $3 price tag, this is one of the best deals on Amazon. Highly recommended.

I have a special device and a couple of diamond dust sharpeners which are superb for all my kitchen and cooking knives. unfortunately they did not work too well on my thicker fishing knife. This Sharpening stone took over and turned my fishing knife into a scalpel. Very efficient and quick work. I would not have believed it after trying to sharpen it prior to this stone. Yes I recommend this stone highly. Practice or learn how to use it, very easy. and the price was so good.
