Finally a great mug that won't tip over.
I like that this has a wide base so it stays steady. I set it on the little platform between my front seats on my minivan since it obviously is too big for a cup holder. Thankfully it doesn't need one! One of the screws fastening the handle to the actual mug feels like there is some slight play in it. I assumed I'd be able to tighten it, but don't have the right tool. I need a small, 6-sided star bit with a circular circular cut out because Stanley used an uncommon type of screw. Keep my coffee hot for as long as I need it to.

This mug is the truth
The mug is sturdy but easy to carry. It holds more hot, drinkable liquid than I'd normally drink in a sitting and keeps the contents warm for hours, even with the lid flipped open. Great for making a huge mug of tea and drinking half the day. The flat, textured grip bottom keeps the mug from tipping over even when smacked by an awkward forearm. If I had to say anything negative about this mug it's that the flip lid can be hard to open, but that's only because the seal is really tight, so not even really a bad thing and it'll probably loosen a bit over time with use.

Fantastic Mug — Practically Unspillable
This mug is great. It’s huge (20 oz) and keeps my coffee warm for hours. The wide base makes it almost impossible to tip over; gravity would have to reverse to knock it down. The twist-on lid seals tight, so even if it does tip, it won’t spill. It's very easy to clean a fully functional and perfect everyday mug.

Practically Unsinkable—The Perfect Everyday Mug
The Stanley Tough-to-Tip Admiral’s Mug lives up to its name and then some. The weighted base really does keep it steady and always upright. The double-wall steel insulation is outstanding, keeping coffee hot for hours and iced drinks cold well into the late afternoon and evening. I also love the thoughtful details: the comfortable handle, the snug lid that prevents splashes, and the rugged stainless-steel finish that shrugs off dents and scratches. It’s the rare mug that feels equally at home on a workbench, in a boat cabin, or on an office desk. If you’re tired of spills and want a durable, handsome mug that can handle anything, the Stanley Admiral’s Mug is a rock-solid choice. Highly recommended for anyone who wants their drink to stay where it belongs—inside the cup.

Lid should be redesigned
I WANT to give it a 5-star review! Problem I have IS with the lid but not the majority of other lid issues I've read about. The lid is tight to get off sometimes but my problem is the actual drinking from it...there is a small hole that helps with the 'flow' of beverage through the drinking opening. My nose must be exceptionally large because it acts as a 'stopper' and covers the hole which stops the flow of beverage into my mouth!! Frustrating and annoying!! But I love the no-tip design of the mug. I spill all the time, but not since I started drinking out of this...and it's a great camping mug!

Really keeps the temperature
This cup is sturdy, takes a beating whole it keeps my coffee hot letting me drink for hours, instead of minutes. The cap screws down tight and the cover for the sippy hole seals in the liquid tightly. No dripping. The only downside is the cover for the sippy hole is not easily opened with one hand. I still give it 5 stars.

Great, Veristile and Durable Everyday Mug!
Stanley Tough‑to‑Tip Admiral’s Mug (20 oz) – 1‑Month Review After a month of using the Stanley Tough-to-Tip Admiral’s Mug daily—both at the office for my morning AeroPress coffee and on weekend camping trips—I can confidently say it largely lives up to its name. I’ve put this mug through its paces with hot coffee and cold water, indoors and outdoors. In this review, I’ll cover its durability, design, insulation performance, and real-world practicality to help you decide if this rugged mug is the right fit for your needs. It’s a balanced first-person take, on my experience with it. Design & Build Quality The Stanley Admiral’s Mug in its iconic Hammertone Green finish. Its low-profile design and sturdy handle give it a distinct “outdoor” vibe. The build quality of the Mug is immediately apparent. After a month of daily use, the 18/8 stainless steel body, durable plastic, and grippy rubber bottom show virtually no wear. I’ve banged it around at the office and clipped it to a backpack while camping, and it still looks brand new. The green hammertone finish not only gives it a classic retro style (I’ve gotten multiple compliments on its cool “navy mug” look here in Norfolk, VA), but it will also hide scratches and dirt well. The handle is solidly attached with metal screws and feels secure when carrying a full 20 ounces. (One small nitpick: the handle screws use a star-shaped key instead of a standard Phillips head, so you’d need a special screwdriver if you ever had to tighten them. It hasn’t been an issue for me, but it’s worth noting.) Overall, the design balances ruggedness and style – it looks like it belongs on a ship or a campsite, yet it’s right at home on my desk too! Stability & Spill-Proof Performance Stability is where this mug truly shines. The lower center of gravity base and non-skid rubber pad on the bottom make it extremely hard to tip over accidentally. I have tested to try and casually knock it over at my office desk, and even when I bumped the table, the mug stayed put. In the car, it sits nicely on the console or dash – during sharp turns and sudden braking, it does not budge. (It’s almost entertaining to see a mug not sliding around where everything else would!) The trade-off for the wider base is that it won’t fit in any standard car cup holder, so you’ll need to place it on a flat surface instead. However, given how securely it grips, it is a non-issue, I don’t mind this much except on long drives with passengers. The spill-proof lid is a big plus. The mug has a locking flip-top lid that seals tightly. I can toss the mug in my bag or hold it upside down without any leaks – not a drop escapes. This has saved me from coffee disasters more than once when I’ve knocked the mug over (again, hard to do but not impossible) or had to stash it in my lunch bag. When you want to drink, you just flip the lid open to sip. The hinge keeps it back securely, so it doesn’t flop down on your nose (a pet peeve with some people I am told). One thing to remember: you do need to fully snap the lid closed to make it leak-proof. This should be obvious – but that’s true of any spill proof travel mug. Overall, for stability and spill prevention, I couldn’t ask for better performance. It truly delivers on the “tough-to-tip” promise, lets me be confident knowing I’m unlikely to wear my coffee or water on my shirt. Insulation Performance Being a Stanley product with double-wall vacuum insulation, I had high expectations for heat and cold retention. In practice, the insulation is good but not mind-blowing. Here’s what I noticed between hot and cold retention: Hot Coffee: My morning coffee stays satisfactorily hot for around 2–3 hours before dropping to a warm (but drinkable) temperature. If I preheat the mug with boiling water (like the instructions suggest) and keep the lid mostly closed, I can push close to 4 hours of reasonably hot coffee, which aligns with Stanley’s claims. However, on days when I’m sipping frequently and opening the lid a lot, I notice the coffee cooling off faster, around the 2-hour mark it’s merely warm. For a premium mug at this price, I expected better heat retention. It’s not poor by any means – it covers my entire commute and morning routine – but by lunchtime my coffee is usually cold. If you need all-day piping hot coffee, you may be a bit underwhelmed. Cold Water: On the flip side, the mug excels with cold liquids. I fill it with chilled water (no ice) and it stays refreshingly cold for 3+ hours with only a minor temperature rise. On an afternoon at my desk, my water remains cool well into mid-day. During a camping trip, I dropped in a few ice cubes – and incredibly, there was still ice rattling around after 6 hours in moderate outdoor heat. So for keeping drinks cold, it performs great. The mouth is wide enough that it is easy to add in normal sized ice cubes. The insulation will keep coffee hot through a commute plus a morning rutene at the office or a morning of moving camp stuff, but don’t expect your drink to stay steamy hot all day. Cold drink performance is stronger, especially if you use ice. Given the mug’s bulk and price tag, the heat retention is a hair below what I hoped, but it’s acceptable for everyday use. It’s on par with many other vacuum mugs, just short of the highest-end thermoses. Practicality in Daily & Outdoor Use One thing I love about this mug is how versatile it is throughout my day. In the morning, I brew my AeroPress coffee straight into the mug – the opening is perfect for it, and I don’t have to transfer from a smaller cup. Once the coffee is done, I give a quick rinse and it becomes my water mug for the rest of the day. It’s great not having to switch cups; this single mug handles my whole day at the office very well, saves me from bringing a coffee mug and a water thermos to work. Also, the stainless steel interior doesn’t keep flavors, so my water doesn’t taste like coffee oils at all (as long as I give it a quick rinse). At the office, the Admiral’s Mug has proven to be incredibly practical. The handle makes it easy to carry along with my laptop or notebook when I’m moving between rooms. It is a bit wider and heavier than a typical tall travel mug (you can feel the solid 1.2 lb build), it is still comfortable to hold and drink from. The low center of gravity means I’m far less worried about accidental spills at my workspace. In fact, a co-worker joked that I finally “child-proofed” my coffee. Little quality-of-life features, like the dishwasher-safe design, sound great but in the sintructions it does indicate that washing it in the dish washer will wear it more quickly then hand washing (especially if you have art or desgins on it) I personally just hand wash it, which is very easy to do! The mouth is wide enough for a normal hand to scrub the inside if nessary. I find this mostly unessary though as things nearly glide off the intieror with light cleaning and rinsing. I would say that it is perfectly practical to hand wash the mug exclusively, but if you absolutely need to clean it in the dishwasher, it does warn not to use high heat settings. Just somthing to note Outdoors is where this mug truly feels in its element. I feel like it is truely the ideal camping coffee mug. At the campsite, I can set it on a rock or fold out chair that isn’t perfectly flat, and it won’t tip over even if bumped. The sturdy handle is great for clipping the mug to a backpack or hanging it on a branch. I also appreciate the large handle opening; it’s roomy enough to grab comfortably even when I’m wearing gloves. The mug’s durability gives me confidence – I don’t have to baby it. It can tumble around in the back of a truck or get stolen by a child off a camping chair without catastrophe (no dents or cracks so far). Its practical benefits really shine when you’re in the field: you can trust it to keep your drink secure and relatively temperature-stable while you focus on other things. A minor inconvenience when traveling with it: as mentioned, it doesn’t fit in cup holders, and its wode bulk makes it a little less portable in tight spaces, but also, it is much shorter than most tumbelers. On a road trip, I had to place it in my car’s center console area, which was fine, but not as neat as a slim travel tumbler in a cup slot. So if you primarily need a car mug, that’s a consideration. For walking, camping, desk use, etc., it’s fantastic – just grab it by the handle or even toss it in a bag; it won’t leak. And those admiring comments from friend campers or coworkers about the vintage look are a sweet bonus. Pros: Ultra-Stable Design: Wide base and rubberized bottom prevent tipping on almost any surface. It stays put on desks, dashboards, boat decks – you name it. Great for those who know they are accident prone! Spill-Proof Lid: Leak-resistant flip lid locks securely, truly preventing spills when closed. You can carry it in a bag or knock it over without worry. Durable Build: Rugged stainless steel construction with quality plastic/metal parts. Survives daily use and outdoor adventures with no damage. (Plus it’s very easy cleaning.) Excellent Cold Retention: Keeps water and cold drinks chilled for hours. Great for staying hydrated on hot days; ice lasts impressively long. OK Hot Performance: Will still keep this as a Pro, becuase while other priumum insulated mugs perform better. It still keeps coffee hot for a couple of hours and drinkably warm for up to ~4 hours (which is still great performance just less than expected), which covers your morning routine and commute easily. But a bit underwhelming for a premium mug. Comfortable Handle: Large, sturdy handle is easy to grip, even with gloves. Makes carrying and drinking one-handed very convenient. Wide Mouth: Easy to fill, fits an AeroPress for brewing coffee directly, and accommodates full-size ice cubes. Also easy to clean inside thoroughly. Stylish & Distinctive: Classic Stanley Hammertone Green finish and retro jug-like shape stand out. It has a cool “navy ship mug” vibe that gets compliments. Cons: Too Wide for Cup Holders: The great wide base won’t fit in standard car cup holders. It’s stable on flat surfaces in a vehicle, but not ideal for every car ride. Bulky Form Factor: Short and stout, it takes up more desk/backpack space than a typical tall tumbler. The weight (about 1.2 lbs empty) is the trade-off for durability – not heavy, but you feel it. Handle Screws: The handle is attached with star-key (Torx) screws instead of standard screws. Not an issue unless you need to tighten or remove it, a Phillips screwdriver won’t work. Premium Price: Quality doesn’t come cheap. It’s worth the ~$30 price for what you get, but it’s an investment for a mug. If you’re on a tight budget, there are cheaper mugs (albeit far less sturdy) out there. Conclusion & Recommendation: In my experience, this mug has proven to be a reliable and rugged daily companion. Its stability and spill-proof design have literally saved my coffee (and my cloths) on multiple occasions, and its durability gives me confidence to take it anywhere—be it the office, the car, or wherever outdoors. Yes, it has a few limitations (it’s not car-cup-holder friendly, and the heat retention, while solid, isn’t the very best in class), but those feel minor in comparison to how well this mug excels in practicality and build quality. If you’re looking for a nearly indestructible, tip-proof mug that can double as your go-to office coffee cup and your camping buddy, the Admiral’s Mug is a fantastic choice. It brings together the convenience of a travel mug with the sturdiness of an insulated camp container. I personally love it and use it every single day. Overall, I highly recommend this mug for anyone who wants durability and stability in their travel cup. It’s a specialty mug that absolutely delivers on its promises, and it might just be the last coffee mug you ever need to buy. Cheers! ☕️

Great mug - keeps hot for hours
Great mug. It’s amazing at keeping my coffee hot for hours. It’s also very sturdy and doesn’t slip at all in the car. The only downside and it is def not any deal breaker but when the amount left gets very low, it’s a little hard to get the rest out when drinking.

I have been using it everyday for my chinese tea habit. Great mug, ample size for whole day sipping, and just deep-scrubbing the interior with 3M stainless-steel sponge once in a while to keep it bright and shiny. Love this mug!

I bought this for daily mug but ended up storing it as part of my Stanley collection. It is just a bit odd for daily coffee mug. Could keep the temperature as promised, feels solid and its Stanley.
