I wanted a nontoxic, affordable alternative to the well-known salon tea tree peppermint clarifying shampoo in the green bottle. I have fine hair that leans oily and needs to be washed every day or two, so I wanted a gentle but effective clarifying shampoo. I’ve only used it twice but so far, I love it. Similar results as the salon brand without the added dyes and fragrance - hair feels clean but not stripped (I still follow with a good conditioner though). I will say though that not all of this brand’s shampoos are fragrance-free so make sure you check ingredients lists if that matters to you. They all say no synthetic fragrance, but some list fragrance/parfum, which I find confusing/misleading. This lemon sage one though does not. I wish they sold it in the larger sizes!

This is a shampoo I could almost rate 5 stars, but it just misses the mark. It does a good job of providing lightweight cleansing and the scent is wonderful. I'm not a huge fan of herbal scents, but it smells very natural and fresh. However, I find I have to use a good bit of it to lather in my hair, and my hair is only shoulder length. It's a much smaller bottle than you think, and I've been using it quickly. It's a bit cost prohibitive in that sense. My hair is extremely oily but my scalp is dry, so it's tough to find the "right" shampoo. This does come close. I can skip a day in between washes, where I usually have to wash it everyday, but it leaves my hair a touch dry and frizzled if I don't use a conditioner with it. But if I use a conditioner I'm back to washing it every day. So it's a decent option for shampoo, but for the price I don't think it's "the one". That said, if price is no objection and you have a bit more balanced hair chemistry than mine, it's a wonderful option due to how natural it is.

I've always had oily hair but a few months ago it started to get out of control. I went from washing my hair every other day to washing it every day because by the time I got home the day after I had washed it, it was already extremely oily. I started trying different shampoos for oily hair but didn't notice any improvement. I drove a long way to the only retailer in my area that sells a popular drugstore brand's weekly shampoo for super oily hair. It claimed it should be used just once a week because it would really remove excess oil and wouldn't be safe to use more frequently. Well, nothing. Didn't work. I could use it every day and my hair would be just as oily. So I decided to do a search here on Amazon and see what I could find. This one caught my eye because it had very good reviews and the testimonials were from people who had the same problem I had and it had worked for them. I decided to purchase the smaller size just to see if it worked. The first time I tried it, the scent was a little strange. Not bad, just not what I'm used to. A little herbal mixed with something else I can't describe. I followed the instructions and lathered and left it on for 3 minutes and repeated. I only apply conditioner to the ends. When I blow dried it, I had to struggle a little at first detangling it but now I just take a minute to detangle it before brushing it and blow drying it. I was surprised when my hair stayed decent for almost 3 days! And I'm talking fresh, not just so so or just a little bit sticky. If I had sprayed a little dry shampoo, I could have gone one more day without washing my hair but my normal routine is every other day so I didn't feel comfortable without washing. I might try it sometime though. :-) I know how frustrating it is to have extremely oily hair and not being able to fix the problem. And how disgusting it can make you feel. I highly recommend this shampoo if you have that problem. It's excellent.

UPDATE: After using this product for a few months, I'm still not a fan, but to be fair, I'm seeing better results now. Initially, I found the shampoo to be only slightly effective and gave it 2 stars. After taking some extra time in the shower to really massage this shampoo into my scalp in an effort to remove any product build-up, my oily hair issues have been solved. I can now comfortably go 2 days without my hair becoming oily...so, IMO, this product does work, but it might take some time and extra attention in the shower to see the results. I still only give it 3 stars because it leaves my wet hair tangly and very difficult to blow dry without using conditioner, and sometimes I just need to be able to quickly wash my hair and get on with the day. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have long, fine hair that has recently been getting oily within hours of being washed and blown out. I tried this shampoo because of the ingredients and the reviews. The first time I used it I liked the way it felt on my scalp, but it was very difficult to blow dry my hair due to all the tangles. Once dry, my hair had an odd shine that looked oily, but felt dry. After using the shampoo for a few weeks it takes longer for my hair to get oily, but it feels especially thin and is hard to style. Using conditioner helped resolve the tangling issue, but it’s also made my hair heavier and flat, even with blow drying. And, while I know it’s superficial, I absolutely hate having a shampoo bottle in my shower that’s labeled “Degreaser” - it sounds like something that belongs in a garage. For me, this product was a miss.
