Works and is fun just like you'd expect a Play-Doh product to be. Lots of different designs and making strips of pasta is fun with the crank. Smaller children can use it too but the main pasta maker (the one with the crank) will be difficult to operate depending on the age. Most likely 3 and a half is from when they should be able to manipulate it without getting frustrated. Before that you'd probably need to help them out with it.
