Best Medical Penlight PERIOD!
Update after almost two years of use is at the very bottom of my original review which follows: I had come to believe there is no such thing as a perfect penlight. I have owned the expensive W.A. Penlight, the copy cat ADC version, and numerous others. This particular version of the MDF blows all other penlights away. Other MDF penlights I have not been happy with however this latest version they hit a home run. Pros: 1) The light is a warm white which is best for getting true tissue color as the insanely bright LED bulbs that some penlights come with distort colors. Perfect for checking pupils as well, not blinding to patient. 2) Nice weight to it and the outside has a slight "grippy" texture to it. 3) There is a pupil gauge and ruler. 4) Light easily clicks on and stays on until clicked again. 5) Sturdy construction - dropped a couple times on hard flooring and still working. 6) Inexpensive for the quality you receive in this product. Cons: NONE; Best medical penlight I have owned and easily beats the top penlight that ADC sells....AND this beats the Welsch Allen penlight. MDF did their homework on this penlight. Buy this penlight and you will forget all the ones you have used in the past that you have been dissatisfied with for one reason or another. UPDATE: After close to two years of using this penlight I can report that my original review was an accurate one even after long-term almost daily use. This MDF penlight is still working flawlessly in function and looks. All I have done is change the battery a couple times. I can state with confidence even after long-term use that MDF really did their homework on this instrument. Also, still in opinion that this is superior to the W.A. Penlight and its ADC copy cat penlight. Was so happy I have bought 2 more of these penlights so I could stock up on them in case they ever discontinued this amazing penlight.

MDF makes excellent products
I trust the brand MDF. I have stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and now a professional medical illuminator aka small pen light for looking in patients eyes, ears, mouth, and throat. This pen light is excellent in every way. It's strong and holds up to dropping because it's solid metal. It's got a high quality on/off button on the top of the pen light. Just one click on and off only. The amber LED light bulb will last forever. It's not too bright for a patients eyes unlike some LED pen lights I've had. The tip is chrome and can easily be wiped off and sanitized in between patients. The tip unscrews with fine threads which is how you change the AAA batteries. In general, batteries can swell up and even leak due to an increase in gases with in the battery. This is why I'm using lithium ion rechargeable batteries. Longer life and less likely to expand and leak like alkaline batteries ie. energizer and duracell. The barrel of the pen light has a white, rubber coating which has not worn off or peeled like other rubber coated items I've had in the past. Every thing including the clip is metal, durable, long lasting, and a bit on the heavy side (82.2 grams with batteries). The barrel has mm pupil sizes and a small ruler both of which are quite useful. There's nothing I would change about this pen light except maybe make a black version since it would better match my outfits.

Good penlight for optometry: Warm, pupil gauge, durable, might need battery fix
I use this penlight every day for work as an optometrist. I I like the soft, warm, but bright light that this penlight gives off. It’s a brighter and more consistently illuminating light than the ubiquitous, cheap, ADC-style ‘diagnostic disposable penlights’ and has a clicky push button instead of a hard-to-squeeze pen clip on-switch. I’ve also used penlights that are just way too bright. While that’s great for me to check pupils, I feel bad for the patients who are squinting into the light while I check. The soft, bright, light from this penlight is more comfortable than a harsh blue LED with condenser lens and this is still plenty bright enough to check if PERRL(A). I’ve been using this every day on about 14 patients a day for around six months so far. I still sometimes grab a transilluminator to double-check if I think pupils look a bit suspicious, but it does a good job. The pupil gauge on it is an added bonus. The pupil sizes are accurate and match the pupil sizes on on my other diagnostic near VA card. It’s nice to have this one too for cases when I left my other gauge in another room. I did have some trouble with AAA batteries wiggling around inside this penlight, which for a while made me have to shake the penlight sometimes to get it to shine. I was able to get around this problem though by ripping up a sticky note and taping one side to each AAA battery to add space around the batteries. After bulking up the thickness of the two AAA’s, I didn’t have anymore issues. If you are an optometrist or optometry student looking for a cheap and good penlight, id recommend trying this one out.

Average, but does the job
Typical pen light. Easy to use and functions as expected. It would have been nice it had come with batteries. I like that it’s white in color to match the tubing of the stethoscope, but it would have been cool for the pull size chart to be rose gold to completely match the stethoscope that it was bundled with.

Nice Penlight
I bought this for nursing school but have not used it yet. I spent hours in the internet comparing different penlights. This penlight only had a few reviews and no customer images to look at but I took a chance since i wanted a penlight that's made by a company that makes medical supplies. This MDF penlight looks very nice in person. It has a matte finish that's non-slip which I really like. The metal parts at both ends feels very sturdy. Does not look or feel cheap. Weight is just right (not too heavy and not too light). It has a warm LED light. A little pricey for $14.95 but if it holds up in nursing school, then it's worth the price.

Yes this is a little expensive. However the quality is impressive. It feels solid. It fits into various pen pockets and stays there. I've already dropped the thing and it survived without any issues. I'm a fan of MDF products, as I also have two stethoscopes. They are attentive an always respond will to customer service needs. I will certainly continue to but their products.
