My wife wanted this for our river trips. She thinks she will find jewelry when we go to the river. She first tried it out in the back yard. She found a few nails. We took it to the river and she found three bottle caps. So we will not get rich from this but it appears to work well.

It's a good metal detector my problem is i always wanted one but now i got it i have no place to use it if you get one make sure you have places to go to use them a lot of parks don't allow them so i have a very expensive paper whight other than that it's nice.

Though this item is water proof it doesn't detect very deeply. About 3" below sand when detector is right on sand.

Adequate unit for hobbyists/amateurs
I have had one of these for about 3 years. It is not a great unit but not terrible for the $155 which I paid for it. You can find coins and other small items buried to a depth of about 6 to 8 inches and it is water resistant. It's handy for working around boat docks where things like tools may fall in the water. The unit is basically generic, made in China, reasonably sturdy and well balanced. It is marketed under a number of names and models- Cobra, Gold Digger, Deep Blue, Barska, Beachcomber, and numerous others. Mine is a model MD 3080. Volume, sensitivity and discrimination are adjustable. Outside of the control layout, it does not even remotely resemble a Fisher 1280 as someone suggested. On the plus side, it comes with waterproof head phones included, and has an adjustable length shaft. It has a removable 12 volt battery pack requiring 8 AA batteries- not the best arrangement. The unit retails from about $160 to as much as $300. If you are looking for a low priced detector that you can use at the beach or in shallow water, it will function as well as any in that price range. If you are an occasional treasure hunter like I am this unit is fun and easy to use.

Really fun unexpected gift
I am having great time with this, my father in law bought it for me (so sweet) as I recently have an extended time off due to medical reasons. Its been a lot of fun, I use it in the surf at their house and I am just having a ball with it. I didn't test it yet actually being submerged….I only used it on the surfs edge - i didn't go the depth that it says it goes, so I can't speak to that part. I am just having a lot of fun with
