My favorite day-to-day knife
I own more than 70 knives -- most are folders -- and this is the one I carry every day. It clips unobtrusively inside my waistband, so I don't have a knife rolling around in my front pocket, bashing my keys or clanging around with coins. It lays comfortably at an angle and doesn't poke me when I'm seated at my desk or in the car. It's a small, reliable, indispensible tool. It cuts all kinds of materials well (from rope -- nylon and hemp -- to zip ties, cardboard, packing tape, and rubber hose). I like the partially-serrated edge for the tough jobs. I have another CRKT M16 with the drop-point blade, but I prefer the tanto point because it's more substantial when piercing tougher materials (like leather). Mine was sharp out of the box, but I gave the edge a quick freshening and stropping as a matter of habit. Like any knife it does require sharpening every once in a great while, but an occasional quick deburring of the edge keeps it cutting smoothly and cleanly, and extends the interval between sharpening. I've found that the CRKT M16s I've owned are a little stiff when new; the blade lock/release is particularly notchy. But if you work the blade open and closed a dozen times or so the locking/relase action becomes very smooth. I've played with the tension of the blade retention screw, but honestly I didn't see any benefit -- the several I own were adjusted well from the factory. This isn't really a self-defense knife -- it would need to be about 20% larger, and IMHO that would make it too large for a 'daily carry' knife, especially around the office. But the blade is stout for a knife of this size; the blade lock is postive and firm, and the handle provides very good grip even when your hands are slippery. So in a self-defense situation, I'd much rather have this knife at hand than most other folders. Overall, a great day-to-day carry knife. And at this price, it's a steal. UPDATE July 2013: Yes, I still carry this CRKT every day; still just as sharp and as reliable as the first day I bought it. Haven't had any issues with the blade locking system. Use this knife regularly and the muscle memory will take over in short order; it really is a one-handed operation to open or close this little gem. Only difference over the last two years is that I've bought a total of four more -- one for the glovebox of each car and one in the nightstand. Simple, well made, reliable, and a good value -- what more could you want?

Excellent small EDC knife
Owned this knife for over 2 years and it deserves a good review. Upon receiving the knife, it was smaller than I expected, even after watching videos and looking at pictures of it. Handle feels like the width of 2 ballpoint pens laid together, so it's not for heavy use, but this makes it completely dissapear clipped in your pocket. Lightweight and deep carry clip make it easy to forget about. I got the tanto tip and serrations, which look cool, but if I had to do again I would do away with the serrations. I don't find much use for them and they just make it harder to sharpen. A lot of reviews mention the AutoLawks extra spring lock, and truthfully, unless you're a complete moron, this is simple and nothing to complain about. Very easy to get used to, even in your non dominant hand. In fact, when I use other knives without it, they feel unsecure. There is no spring assist with the flipper, something I'm used to with previous Kershaws. This knife requires a motion similar to aggressively flipping a light switch off. Stays as sharp as can be expected, nice size, looks good and works great, could not be happier with a $30 knife. Note: The first knife that was sent to me through Amazon was very stiff. With all the strength in my pointer finger, (and I don't have weak fingers..I got some buff fingers) I could not use the flipper to deploy the blade. Sent it to CRKT and their replacement has been working flawlessly since.

Permanent addition to a pocket
Of all my CRKT's, this may be my favorite, with only one caveat. It's light; it's tough; it will take and keep a MEAN edge; it's an excellent usable size; it opens easily and securely; the grip is positive and secure and the tanto tip is durable. All in all, just about the perfect 24/7/365 pocket pal, and the clip is strong enough that it stays in the back corner of your front pocket like it should. However; (here's that one caveat) the Carson flip lever on the blade is serrated and rough - to facilitate grip with a thumb or index finger so you can flip it open one-handed. The serrations are awesome for this purpose, and it opens as fast as any switchblade once you get the hang of it, but it also chews your wrist up in short order if you have to fish around in that pocket for anything small and at the bottom. Being so light, and fitting so nice and tight in that back corner of your pocket, it's easy to forget you have it until you need that last dime from the very bottom of the pocket it shares, and you WILL remember it when it bites your knuckle or wrist bone - or in my case, the first half dozen times. The clip is strong enough to hold it VERY MUCH in one place, despite you dragging flesh over the serrations, wishing it would move or at least give a little; it won't. That said, once the scrapes heal, you get used to it being there, and take it out BEFORE fishing the depths of your pocket. One-handed closing takes some technique, but five minutes is more than ample R&D/practice for that. The serrated section of the blade comes in very handy for rope or zip-tie straps, and I like the tanto tip for nearly everything; the durability over a drop point for cutting against a hard surface is considerable, and for puncturing things, it's the only way to go. As with all their knives, the finish is superb; low gloss, very unobtrusive, and the clip lets the handle ride just right in the pocket, so it's virtually invisible but still right where you expect it to be every time. The coating thus far has really surprised me - almost 10 months of daily use, and not a mark on it (although I'm sure at some point there will be). It cleans up great, doesn't collect fuzz or dirt, holds a very nice edge, and has a very high propensity for walking away when anyone borrows it. I know of a handful of friends who have subsequently ordered the same knife, and everyone still loves them. Dollar for dollar, it's hard to imagine any competition.
