Easy installation, hot water heater runs flawlessly

I like my replacement ThermostatThe original thermostat (not the brand I purchased here) that came on my Atwood water heater use to light and go out once in a while, while under warranty. When re-lit it seemed to work OK. Kink of hard to trouble shoot or complain about something that's not broken at the moment. By going out, I mean maybe sometime over night it might go out just in time for a cold morning shower. As years went by I finally got lucky and it would not light while out on the road, now head toward home but still several days to go. Changed the thermal couple, no help. Now I understand Atwood produced a bunch of faulty thermostats (not the one your thinking about buying) then from what an RV supply store said. This is a different brand thermostat than the original equipment supplied thermostat and a near perfidy fit, EXCEPT I did had to re-do the gas supply line to fit the new thermostat, not easy job in my case. The few times I have used the new thermostat it's worked perfectly. I like my new thermostat.

I bought this to replace my 91601 on my 84 Shasta w 6 gallon hot water tank. I installed it today, it appear to a successfull swap. The piping did not line up as though it was a drop in replacement, but it was close enough to work because my propane line had a little bit of play in the run. 1) You'll have to use your valve "outlet" fitting (with tiny orifice )from your 91601, it only comes with new piping for the valve/thermostat "inlet" side. Also, be sure you have white plumbers tape handy for a few areas that calls for it. Overall, while pricey- I'd say it is decent and does the job. Also, I used the same thermo coupler & pilot pair from my 91601 unit without problem because my issue was a leaking adjustment knob that caught fire. :-/

Looks very different than the 27 year old original, but everything fit easily. The only problem I had was figuring out how to remove the original. I read somewhere to be sure to use “the proper wrench.” I couldn’t find any such wrench, so I resorted to YouTube. A do it yourselfer posted a video detailing the removal. He used a large slip joint pliers to grab the rectangular housing and unscrew the entire assembly from the tank. I feared tearing the housing from the probe, but I used a large pipe wrench and was able to remove it. I installed the new one by hand and was able to get enough leverage to securely tighten it.There was disagreement on the internet about whether or not to remove the plastic sleeve from the probe. The instructions that came with it said to leave the sleeve on, so I did.Some reviewers mentioned a problem aligning the gas line with the input port on the valve. It was necessary to install the valve at an angle to align the burner tube with the orifice elbow (which must be transferred from the original valve) and by doing so, the input port was closely aligned with the gas line.

Installed with no problems to a 1994 Atwood G6A-7 with the fittings that came with it. Just had to cut away some existing silicone around gas line opening to raise gas line a little. Then reseal. I install with new pilot light and thermal-couple assembly at the same time. Very inexpensive. Main burner was fine. 27 year old 6gal Atwood hot water heater back up and working properly!

great upgrade from old unit. It does require a tweek. Unit will need to be rotated counterclockwise from level about 11 to 15 degrees to make inlet gas line hook-up. They do include the flare fitting in package.Read instructions. Don't remove plastic sleeve from theromostat probe. Make sure at end of flame tube that flame spreader is not melted off. I found out my only problem was that little flame spreader at end of flame tube. It is at very end of tube about the size of a penny about a quarter of an inch from end covering opening making flame spread and a little back pressure for incoming fuel supply.

Does what it’s supposed to do, and does it well. Our water heater has never worked so well. I didn’t even realize it wasn’t operating at its potential. 3 of us can take a shower now, before the hot water is completely gone. Used to be just one shower, before the new control valve. Also the pilot light stays lit, even in the wind. Before, it blew out constantly.
