This was my first attempt at hand carving. The kit includes absolutely everything you need. The knife is good quality, stays sharp. It even includes a practice block of wood. I skipped the practice block and went right to the cherry and still had great results. Made this for my wife as a gift. She loved it!

Picked up a new hobby. This kit is great. It's got everything you need to make a little bird. The guide is great, the knife is really nice, and you get all the things you need to start whittling. Even band-aids! Great product.

This is a great kit for beginners who want to get into whittling or wood carving. It comes with everything you need to get started. It comes with knife, two blocks of wood of different hardnesses, leather strop, polishing compound, three different grits of sandpaper, cut resistant tape, bees wax, ruler, two stencil patterns and some bandaids. The directions that come with it are very basic. There is a QR code on the instructions that brings you to a little how to video that shows you the different knife cuts. What I didn’t like is there is nothing that tells you what species each block of wood is. After finding another how to video on YouTube posted by someone was I able to figure out that one block is basswood and the other is cherry. The lighter block is the basswood, which is the easier one to carve. That’s the practice block. The cherry is for the finished piece. The other thing I wish they had more info on was how to strop the knife blade. I had to look up more information on that as well. The booklet and online said to use the blue cut resistant tape but mine came with pink tape. Not a big deal but some people might get confused by that. Otherwise, this is a great way to get started in wood carving without having to buy a whole bunch of individual things. I am happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend it to someone wanting to get started in wood carving.

Amazing introduction into basic wood working. The first softer wood thy provided I did completely using the resources they provided. It took me a few weeks of working on it on and off. However, then when the second harder wood time came around I utilized a cheap sanding belt to cut it down to the template and it took my less than a day of working. Much faster. Also to make the wood pop more, I would highly recommend getting some tung oil to run it down. You should be able to see the difference in visible grain ;)

Very fun project! It came with everything you would need besides glue for the pattern. Directions were a little confusing in the beginning when placing the pattern but overall great value for money spent.

I decided to give this type of hobby a try after watching countless videos of wood carving. It is a great starting kit but the knife that comes with it kept giving me issues and could not get a clean cut, I ordered another knife and cutting was much easier and was not dealing with as much hand stress as I was with the one that came in this kit

Got this as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old daughter. We were both skeptical at first but she had fun learning. She is able to start and stop on her own time and she loves seeing the progress she has made. I do wrap her hands and you may need extra coban eventually. The kit came with 2 wood blocks, so great price.

This was a fun project, I completed both birds over a week, only working a couple of hours a night. You could definitely speed that up by using a saw to help remove some of the wood. I accidentally started with the cherry wood included in the kit, it was fairly hard to cut into and I needed to strop the knife every half hour or so to keep the edge on it. However, the basswood block cut much easier. It took about half the time that the cherry did to carve into a passable bird shape. The included booklet only included simple steps on how to work on the bird and the video of it wasn't that much better. Serviceable, but I would recommend some tutorials on youtube to supplement the process. The knife included in the kit isn't top of the line, but it's still a great knife. The blade is not too thick, razor-sharp, and has a comfortable handle. The wood is good quality, mine had no blemishes at all in it. All in all, this is a great way to get started with wood carving. If you're interested in giving it a try, pick this kit up.

A great set to get into wood carving! The knife is good quality and is easily sharpened by the strope. The gauze and stroping compound are enough to last you for a while too. The bird design is fairly simple to follow and, in my opinion, is perfect for your first project. The only issue was with the second wood block -- the grain curves, making it nearly impossible to cut into it, I had to abandon it after a few hours and buy new wood pieces. No problems with the first block though.

This kit is brilliant! I bought it for my boyfriend and I to do together as there are two blocks of wood (a bit of healthy competition, haha!). All equipment was present with a great instruction book and access to online video tutorials. It is such a smart product, really unique and the perfect thing to have a go at during lockdown. We were both very impressed, thank you!
