Does this jacket fit bigger than expected? if i normally wear medium should i get small like i do with their hoodies?

i went to Cabela's in Dundee, MI to see if they had this coat to try on before ordering online & they did. i am same as you w/ Carhartt sizing, i usually wear size:M in attire but w/Carhartt the sizes are all different for each item & whatnot.. the L was too poofy on me & the M was just right, snuggy with a'lil bitty extra room underneath for some cold weather layers. the only thing i felt was a tad bit tight was when i zipped the M all the way up & it wrapped my neck like a chocker girls wear.

I'm 6', 220, i typically wear large and tall when available. would large fit or xl? i do not want tight.

I am 6 ft. and weigh 190 and I bought a large and it fits perfect. I can still wear a sweatshirt under it and there is plenty of room. If I were you I would get a XL I don't like my outerwear tight either.
