4.5 stars
“This sand, this f—ing red dirt, that’s all there is. It’ll burn ya feet, break your back and bleed you dry. And you know what? I f—ing love it.”What a heartwarming Australian cowboy romance. And the writing was outsider-friendly for Americans like me. I’m glad they had the Aussie slang glossary at the beginning, and my head is reeling from how huge Australian stations (ranches) are! Like, they make Texas ranches sound small! Seeing everything through the visiting American’s eyes was helpful as we got immersed into this Mars-like realm. And in the midst of this harsh outback, you have the cute, kinda emotional story of Charlie and Travis. I worried that this romance would be placid and formulaic, but I found myself tearing up and pleasantly surprised by the end. So sweet, loved the bits of angst as they figured their relationship out.The book wrapped up nicely enough that it could be read as a standalone, so I’m curious what the rest of the series is about.Angst: 3/5Spice: 3/5

So good!
Excellent! Outstanding! Amazing! 😂 My only complaint with this book would be that it was too short, but that complaint is moot because it’s the first book in a series! I will definitely be continuing this series, not right away but soon! Travis was just what Charlie needed. They are so perfect together! 5 ginormous stars! Highly recommended!

Intense, emotional and worth every penny...5 stars!
I have two words for you...Australian cowboy. If that's not enough to pique your interest, let's thrown in an American farm boy from Texas. The accents alone are enough to do me in. Add in the fact that our Australian cowboy is firmly closeted thanks in large part to his deceased father's negative influence and an attraction between our two main characters that is intense and grows stronger every day and you've got the buildup to an emotional eruption ready to go.One thing I can say about N.R. Walker's characters no matter which book of hers I'm reading is that they are complex, have lots of depth, and will make you emotional as well as they grow and evolve throughout the story. Charlie is a prime example of this--he's denied himself for so long thanks to his father's emphatic assertion that a "fairy" can't run Sutton Station. Charlie has let this color his life-and not in a good way-even though it is blatantly clear to anyone who knows him that he CAN run it, and he does a damn good job of it. I felt so bad for him, suppressing his own nature and wants when even those who love him and call him family try to encourage him that it's okay to be who he is and love who he wants.Enter Travis-and thank goodness he came to Sutton Station. He's the kind of guy who will tell you like it is, and doesn't worry about what other people will say. He's strong and hard-working, dedicated and pitches in to help even though he's just arrived. He's the perfect man to show Charlie how things could be if Charlie would just open up. The physical chemistry between the two is amazing, and the naughty scenes between them range from wild and passionate to intimate and sweet.N.R. Walker paints a vivid picture of life on a farm in the Outback, and brings Travis and Charlie's story to life so perfectly-expressing the intensely emotional bond the two forge so well that it hurt to think that Travis was only supposed to be there for a short while before going back home. The scene in the kitchen between them right before Travis is supposed to go home is one of my favorite scenes (and not just from this book, I mean overall), and when it comes to the audio version, Joel Leslie does a simply phenomenal job at relaying the intensity and tremendous feeling occurring in that scene-he honestly left me breathless. This was a remarkable start to this series, and I highly recommend this story to any M/M romance fan 18+ (that's for the adult language and super sexy, steamy, naughty M/M sexual content). 5 stars for Red Dirt Heart!Audiobook notes:Joel Leslie did a superb job at voicing Charlie and Travis, especially in the scenes that expressed raw emotion and heightened feelings. He injects passion into the characters voices and thoughts, and really brought Red Dirt Heart to life for me. And I've got to say it again--that kitchen scene is filled with such energy and emotion...you'll see what I mean when you listen, and I think you'll agree. 5 stars for the audio!

I can't believe I waited so long to read this book!!
Every once in a while, you stumble upon a book that just touches your heart. You can't really understand why but you know that something about it touched you in a way that you will be thinking about it for days. Red Dirt Heart was that book for me. There was nothing lavish, overly heartbreaking or extraordinary about it and yet, that is where the appeal came in for me.Charlie and Travis were two ordinary men just going through life doing the things that made them happy and then they encounter one another and that is when life changes. Don't misunderstand when I say this book was simple, it was but in the best way. Sometimes, a beautiful simple story about two people falling in love without an overly dramatic cause is perfection.Travis was the honest in your face kind of man where Charlie was more cautious because of the way his father treated his sexuality. Working Sutton Station together really brought them together in the things that they enjoyed but even in the red dirt they were able to connect on a level that not many would understand. They both love this place that is full of numerous creatures that could kill you, insane heat and nothing around for kilometers but they found their place together there. In the red dirt. There are so many ways that I could praise N.R. Walker for this story that was simple but holds true from the very first page until the last. Even when you think you know how your life is going to end up sometimes on person can come in and change all of that.Looking forward to more of Charlie & Travis in book two where we see what happens after the "I love you" and real life starts to settle in.

Poor mechanics kill ratings…
And oh wow, did this book have some pretty horrendous mechanics. The editing and proofreading need to be redone so SO friggin’ bad. It was extremely difficult to read at times and borderline incomprehensible at others. That being said, the story and the characters are amazing. I love the whole thing and I’m excited that it’s a series. I know it’s been out for years and I’m late to the party, but I’m sad about it, so let’s not rub it in, okie dokie? If I was rating this from my heart on just the story alone, I’d be giving it a 5/5. But I can’t do that, because it needs some work.3/5.

Read it.
You will love it. Enjoyed the whole series. If you want to have the swoonsies and feel your heart stutter for these two beautiful men, then do yourself a favour and read this series. My only gripe is that the grammar wasn't always on point, but the small editing errors did not detract from the beauty of the story. Heartwarming. A privilege to read.

I can't believe I waited so long to read this book. I loved Charlie and Travis together and the rest of the characters. The setting of the story made me want to visit Australia. But not really because I'm deathly afraid of everything they have there. I can't wait to finish the rest of the books in the series.

I'm getting into m/m romance and this is a good series. It's a about 2 men from different countries finding common ground....love. I like the setting of this story (Australia), most of the characters & the struggle of being good with who you are in the world. I recommend this series as a great escape from the daily grind. The love scenes are pretty hot.

Characters you can sink your teeth into...
...or just wish you could, yum. Travis and Charlie are sweet and sexy and maybe too good to be true. I look forward to the next book in the series, as I do everything that N.R. Walker writes. It was a lucky thing indeed I found her books. You go get lucky too.
