Southwest Wheel 3,500 lbs. Trailer Axle Electric Brake Kit 5-5" Bolt Circle

This is the best bang for the buck kit. I went through piecing together from other vendors and while a couple combos were a touch cheaper they were missing the backing plat nuts and washers or their reviews weren’t the greatest. To be sure of my order I measured up my spindles bearing journals, wheel bolt pattern and backing plate bolt pattern for my 3500# axles. These kits came complete and exactly what I needed to get my trailer setup with all 4 brakes. Each brake is marked right or left on the sticker to aid in install. I left the brakes set where they came from The factory. After the first 100 miles of break IMO will revisit adjustment. I coupled these brakes with a Reece progressive brake controller. The brakes engage smoothly and provide the stopping power to keep me safe when towing my equipment.

No worries about stopping or bearings again. It’s all in the kit.

All you add is grease and these bolt on to the existing bracket on the axle. Comes with drum, bearings, washer and castle nut. There's no shortage of videos you can find as this is certainly a DIY job if you're being proactive. I added brakes to the rear axle only per some advice on a forum. They add weight to the trailer if you're adding them and that counts towards GVW. States may have requirements as to how many you must have. My trailer had broken a spring in a very unfortunate place so the task of replacing the old hubs with these new brakes was made much more difficult than this needed to be. Get your trailer off the ground, supported safely, and level and you'll have these on in no time. Have a long thin flat blade screwdriver for setting the brake tension. I haven't wired mine and set the brake controller yet. Maybe I'll come back and update this review.

Fit well and very functional

I AM A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC WITH 50 YEARS OF LEARNING. THEREFORE I EXPECTED SOME SORT OF OH NO. BUT IT WAS RIGHT THE OPPOSITE. IT WENT REALLY WELL AND EVERYTHING NEEDED WAS IN BOX.

All the parts were there but I did have a scare because one of the backing plate studs had fallen out. It was still there but hidden behind the magnet arm and shoe. Everything went together like it should. I did have to adjust the shoes out quite a bit to get the proper drag on the drums. They do seem weaker than the brakes on the other axle however I have not pulled the trailer yet and broken in these new brakes. Once broken in these should perform just fine.

Every single thing you could need! Packaged excellently. The value and ease of installation make this kit a 'no brainer'. The included bolt pattern ruler should be a pre-sale item!!!! it will make those unsure of how to measure bolt patterns feel more confident.

Ordered this set to add brakes to my trailer. Everything needed to make the swap. Perfect fit. All seems to of great quality.
