I have a sauder desk I bought from Amazon. While reading the instructions I see you can purchase a qi charger to fit in the underside of the desk top. Sounds great right? So I bought it and hooked it up. Tested the charger and it chimes and charges my phone when NOT installed into the desk. Once installed it won’t do anything. Using a Forstner bit I tried to drills the hole deeper in the desk to allow the qi charger to be more shallow. The bit startered to make a pinhole in the top of the desk so I knew I couldn’t go any more. Mocked up the charger again and still won’t charge. That meant the hole was only about 1/8” deep from the surface of the desk. I tried two iPhones, a 12 pro max and a 12 mini, neither worked through the desk so I was forced to return it.

I ordered two of these for a pair of bedside tables I was making. I actually received one of this item and one "Eggtronic Invisa-Qi Pro LED" which is the next model up that includes a LED light on the top. I thought about adding a small pin hole through the top to make use of the light but decided against it. I only point this out to say, both products perform the same from what I can tell. I used 3/4" (18mm) veneer MDF plywood for the top. I drilled a 2" (50mm) hole in the underside of the top leaving about 1/8" (3mm) of wood between the charger and the top surface where the phone sits. The charge target is fairly small only leaving a small margin for alignment. The charger comes with a sticker that can be applied to the top as a target but I elected to use the trim around the edge of the top to locate the charge target and did not use the sticker to keep the top looking clean. The target sticker does not seem to add anything to the performance of the charger. My technique to line up with the edge of the trim took some trials in scrap wood to make sure I drilled my holes in the right place but it seems to work fine for my application. Overall, I am satisfied both this item and the "Eggtronic Invisa-Qi Pro LED" performed as I expected.

Bought this for our Sauder nightstand. Installed in the pre-drilled hole, following all instructions. Phone chirps when placed over the charging device area, but doesn’t charge! Do not waste your money.
