![Getting On - Complete Series 1 and 2 Box Set [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71qm32806bL.jpg)

Set in Ward B4 of King Edward VIIIth hospital, a run-of-the-mill female medical ward in an NHS outpost someway outside London, Getting On finds its humour in the daily grind faced by the staff - return-to-practice nurse Kim Wilde, the lowest form of life after the lino, Sister Den Flixter, balancing work and pleasure, Dr Pippa Moore searching for a way out, and modern matron Hilary Loftus, keen to make an impression. The black comedy flows thick and fast as Kim Den and Pippa wade through the bureaucracy, bickering and daily battles with life and death on this health care backwater.

The perils of obama-care come to life via the Brits
This is probably the best illustration of the perils of obama-care that every American should be concerned with. Having worked in health care I can tell you that what you experience through the cast of Getting on is simple reality of the types of absurdly, yet hilarious, behaviors in the medical arena. But that's not all. This isn't limited to the medical profession. If you took the premise and behaviours that you witness in "Getting On" and simply changed the profession-to many other organizations such as the military (and yes I am a combat veteran who retired with 33 years) you'd have another award winning show. Think of "Getting On" as simply the civilian version of "Mash". FYI, the British version trumps the American imitation. Sadly it seems that when it comes to copying humour and mysteries from the Brits-something gets lost in the translation....

Mediocre
Love British humor, it's the best! However, I was surprised to find that this series was just mediocre compared to the American version which is much, much better. Usually, it's the other way around!

Get on and get Getting On
Great cast, concept, writing, acting (I really need a f.....ing cigarette; 'you fat nance'). Just enough humour mixed with 'a day in the life of' to satisfy. Always enjoyed Jo Brand's humour so knew I couldn't lose with this one. Hope there's more to come from these women.

the DVD can to the US super fast
However, i thought the UK version would be more interesting (and funnier) than the American version.SO although we did laugh once (which is more than we did in 3 episodes of the US series), it is almost verbatim the same script. So we gave up on watching both US and UK versions.

Great Series
This is a great series. I watched the first two seasons of the American version so didn't expect to like the British series as much. It would be hard to say which was the best. They are both great.

Sums up the NHS
This is a really great DVD which at times sums up the more ridiculous procedures and antics that our NHS has to offer. The "plop- plop" scene in the very first episode will have you wetting yourself or maybe more. The humour is as dry as the Sahara, but brill. Jo Brand is superb along with the rest of the cast. I reckon I have a Consultant similar to that in the series (The one that I am under at the hospital is also full of his own self importance, doesn't listen to anyone and would eat himself if he were chocolate - Any Nurses reading this have also someone in mid that this description fits). This DVD is well worth the money if you need a good laugh!

A fairly slow but beautifully crafted piece of comedy
I watched one episode of this on TV as I quite like Jo Brand and to be honest found the whole episode slow and not particularly enjoyable. I didn't bother watching any more.I bought the Box set for my family for Christmas and have to say that now I am really enjoying it. If you want belly laughs and a fast paced comedy then this is not for you. The whole thing has a subtle comedic value. At times it will have you smiling and just knowing that it's probably a very accurate portrayal of a changing NHS where targets and management decisions are more important that looking after patients.A well written and well observed show. At times sad and tragic as you get to know the characters and their lives. Not fast paced, not hilarious, but a subtle and fantastic portrayal of all that has gone wrong with the Health Service on the UK.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry
If you've ever visited someone in a NHS hospital you will be able to relate. If you've ever had to stay in one as an employee or patient--you can sympathize. At times the show is disturbing but it's darkly comic. The cast is perfect. You know it's good acting because their characters seem to come so natural and easy for them.Jo Brand is great and you want cheer her on.I can't wait to see what happens now that Series 3 is to be broadcast later this year because there's enough subplots going on to provide adequate cliff hangers.

Excellent
Although the subject matter is viewed by many as depressing i e treatment of patients in a NHS hospital, as someone who has worked in this environment, I am impessed by the authenticity of the set as well as the consistently high standard of acting. In addition to providing the occasion for wry amusement, the series serves a useful role in drawing to the attention of the general public issues that are glossed over by mendacious bureaucrats - the rapier of wit as opposed to the bludgeon of scorn - not laugh aloud but insightful and pertinent.
