A China-made $25 dashcam that just works
1Apr2016 Update. I bought this dashcam in June 2014 for $25. It still hums along but I take 2 stars off because it's getting flaky: Once I almost had an accident, so I pressed the lock button to save the video but it was no where to be found. When it works the video is so so, and thus I could barely read licence plates. It also hangs frequently requiring powering off then on. The description doesn't list the camera view angle, so I'm guessing it's 70 degree, very narrow. The price has come down to around $16 so you pay for what you get. I need a better dashcam with view angle between 140-170 degrees, with video quality good enough to read license plates.[Below is the 2014 June review]This is another China made car cam, excepts that it looks like a pocket camera and it just WORKS for half the price of another car dashcam that I had to return because it was dead on arrival. Even though it does not have night vision, it works fairly well with street lights and car head light. As expected the user interface is typically not user friendly, but the little guide booklet is useful. This is a $25 single-lense camera that works as advertised, thus 5-star rating. You just insert a microSD card, plug it in to the cigarette lighter, and it will automatically start recording when the car is started. In my long distance trip it would record continuously for hours of driving. Rarely though, it appears to hang, which can be fixed by unplug/re-plug the power adapter. I did review the recorded videos on a laptop to verify the recording, and tested the save button which protects the current video from being written over. The one feature that's not tested is the dashcam's automatic saving of the video when the car is involved in a collision. However, since I use a 16GB microSD card, even if the dashcam continues recording after an impact, it would take a while before the accident video is written over, not to mention the dashcam would run out of battery.

Could be better, had some scratches on front
Could be better, had some scratches on front, back ( LCD) had protective plastic. Put 32 gb micro card. Once I record around 48 driving, etc, I try to unload images via USB to notebook. In the previous one, I took the camera out of the car and linked to notebook, the camera lit up and the message " Memory Mass" appeared in yellow. I pressed OK and the images transferred to My computer. Then I kept what I wanted and deleted the rest. In this one, I must take the micro card out, place it in an adapter and the adapter goes to the notebooks card slot. A step more. Also, recording in previous camera was automatic. In this one you have to press the Record ( M) and OK button and I guess also the Hold button. Also, at night I can't make the front lights go on. Can someone help?

Works Okay but....
Typical of Chinese Manuals/Instructions, they were limited on information. English was better translated than most. I learned the menu by trial and error, but still easy to navigate. 4 stars are due to learning how to save settings when no 12vdc power is connected, charging the internal battery overnight fixed the issue. The LED's are bright white and visible (not IR), they reflect back in your glass into the camera and eyes, thus blinding both the driver and camera. They can be turned off in the menu to prevent them coming on automatically. It is useful for making videos while not in the car, but a problem when diving at night. Both video quality in night or day was good, but not good enough to read car tags of vehicles within ten feet (2 meters). The Pixel settings can be set up to 1900p, but still appear to be no better than 720p. Still for the price not bad, and if the quality lasts for a year or more, then a 2nd unit for the back car window in lieu of dual cameras (and much cheaper) I will consider. All prior Chinese and Korean made dash cameras I've bought in the past, failed within a month. I tried a Class 4, 8gb Mini SDHC and noticed minor skips in video playback. I switched to a Class 10, 16gb (faster memory) and this made the video play back smoother.Connecting to my PC, Ubuntu 13.04, Windows XP & 7, all see it as a USB Drive. I use VLC for playback, but other video/picture readers should work also. I don't know about Apple OS/IOS. I haven't tried the PC Webcam feature yet. The audio mic and volume is poor and can't easily be heard during playback on the device (at all), and very low on PC playback with out amplification. As time allows, I'll post actual Dashcam Video from Night/Day and good/rainy weather. It does seem to amplify the background lighting in the monitor and playback during night driving, not Night Vision, but good amplified light with headlights, streetlights, etc. in the view of the lens.

Junk! Give it a miss
This camera arrived and I install a Samsung class 10 micro SD memory and gave the camera a try during the day. The camera can record in 1, 2 and 3 minute intervals. I would rather have something that at a minimum recorded in 5 minute intervals. The instructions while not too clear but passable were in English along with other languages.Problems noted were;1. IR LEDs did not work. Nighttime recordings were all a blur from street lights, other car lights and such. The recorded video is not even usable at night.2. While the camera was mounted in the dash the power cord interfered with the suction cup mount. The power connector should have been mounted on the bottom of the camera.3. If the IR LED's had worked there should have been a way to disabled them if the user chose to do so.4. Another problem was when I pulled out the power connector from the socket the wires disconnected and the plug was left behind and required pliers to remove.5. The recorded video did not look to me to be 1080 HD. Close but not quite HD.6. Overall poor design. It appears not much thought went into the design of this camera. Should also have had a lens cover for the camera. If you do choose to buy get a padded case to keep the camera in as it appears way too easy to scratch the lens of this camera as it has no protective lens cover.I would give this camera a miss. I will be sending mine back for a refund.
