‘Nightingale Books’ sounds just like my kind of a bookstore where the owner is ...
I am a total sucker for books. So when I discovered a book about a bookshop, I just had to read it. ‘Nightingale Books’ is more than just an independent bookshop in the town of Cotswold. Julius Nightingale opened the store as a single dad to Emilia. It had been more than just an income source then and it meant a lot to Emilia who has inherited it after her father’s death. Filled with her childhood memories and stories, Emilia tries to overcome her financial struggles to keep the shop running. But the store also means a lot to the locals – their stories are somehow entangled with Julius, his recommendations and Nightingale Books. Will Emilia be able to keep her promise to her father and save the bookshop? I have always felt that independent bookshops have a different kind of charm. They are usually less organized but with friendly owners/employees, it becomes a sort of an adventure to find new reads. ‘Nightingale Books’ sounds just like my kind of a bookstore where the owner is thoroughly involved and often interact with customers at a personal level. I wish Julius wasn’t a fictional character and that I could meet him in person. It was like this fictional character’s death touched me personally! He managed to turn his business into a way to make reading interesting; a way to meet people and to get to know them. Through the bookstore we meet a wide cast of characters that are all very quirky and have their own stories to tell. It was entertaining to get to know them and their stories individually all the while learning more about Emilia and her story. The bookshop really brings these people together and with how they try to help Emilia, it is evident that Julius had really managed to touch all their lives. The writing style is delicate and the language used is simple. Together they help you settle into the book easily. And while you get to know each character, the pages keep turning on their own accord. You reach the end before you realize and it leaves you with a happy and satisfied smile on your face. A note of warning though – once you have familiarized yourself with Nightingale books, you will never see your local bookshop in the same light again.

I did not enjoy her character at all
Nightingale Books is one of those cozy bookshops, where the owner knows each and every book on the over- flowing shelves and what book is meant for whom. People come in to get books, an escape from their everyday lives and walk out, sharing their feelings and making a personal connection with the owner. It has a special charm about it, always welcoming, always warm. Dream Bookshop isn’t it? Now this is where the problem starts, after the owner's death, Emilia returns to her hometown, promising to save her father's bookshop. She suddenly has to fill in her father’s shoes, managing the accounts, and not to give in to sell the bookshop, all the while handling her father’s absence. I did not enjoy her character at all, for me, in order to love a book, I need to feel something for the character and I found the lead female protagonist extremely dull. Please don't go into the book thinking that there are going to be a lot of book references, the love for books etc. as even though the setting of the story is a bookshop, there is hardly any moment where you feel that the books stand out. The setting of the book is lovely but it just misses the brief by quite a margin.

I truly fell in love with the book once I got to know all the characters and their stories. The book really gripped me after 70% and that's when I started to rush through. I started caring for the characters and their lives and this made me give the book 5 stars. -Review from BiteIntoBooks- Pros Feel good book: I cannot describe this book as anything but a feel-good-book. Don't read too fast; This book also has gripping emotions and made me cry a little, but overall it really is a feel-good-book. I closed this book (or my Kindle, lol) with a good feeling. With a *sigh*.. That sigh when you just finished a great book. Life lessons: This book made me realize there can be a lot of things wrong with your life. There can be a lot of things that you want to change. This book made me realize that you have to make the change for yourself. You have to make the hard choices if you want that change for yourself. I like books with a life lesson! I felt involved: At some point (somewhere around 70%) I felt very involved with the characters. I cared for them and for their lives and I felt their joy and their sadness. This is the strongest part about the book. The characters were alive for me. And they have 1 thing in common: They all LOVE books! Books and music: Two magical ingredients for a great book. What do you want more? Cons Wait.. What? A great book about books with some ingredients that you need to love a book. Feelings, great characters and some life advice. I fell in love with this book, mostly in the second part. The book ended amazing and I'm so glad I picked this up!

I often purchase the "$1.99 Specials" on BookBub, and I am often extremely disappointed when they turn out to be garbage...or incredibly shallow, or incredibly bad. This happens quite often, although BB does offer classics and books by well-known, excellent writers. This particular book redeemed a lot of the bad ones, however, for although it could be considered "lightweight," (and it probably is), it is charmingly written and features an array of characters and life situations that are absorbing and interesting. And, I have to say it: every single situation described in the book ends happily. With a certain amount of suspense, it all ends well. What's wrong with that? A little escape is always pleasant, and there is plenty to keep the reader absorbed and happy in this book. It is not brilliant, nor even particularly profound, but it IS a joy to read. You should read it, and grab it now, while it's $1.99!
