Does the board come food safe ready?

I hope so. I used it this weekend. All I did was was with soap and water.

Description says board has a varnish finish - is that true?

Yes, a light/thin Varnish. You aren’t going to get splinters from this board. I do not cut on it though. It’s very large and heavy, great for charcuterie for a large group
