Lonely Planet Rajasthan, Delhi & Agra (Travel Guide) Review: Excellent Guide book to India - I highly recommend this book for travel to the Golden Triangle of India. The text is well written and very helpful in understanding the history, culture and landscape of the areas it covers in India. It is genuine in its honesty about things that are positive and less positive about certain areas and the advice is practical and seems very up to date. The photos are helpful to decide where to visit and some of the practical guidelines for things to be careful for and to avoid were helpful. The book reads as a vetted and well edited guide book which has many knowledgeable authors ( there are several whose bios are included in the book). I highly recommend this guide book and just used it on our trip to India. Review: Your average (sort of boring) guide book - This book provides the basic information you'd expect out of a guide book. Attractions, Restaurants, Hotels. Prices and operating hours. Pretty ho-hum. There's not a lot of personality here. There are some tips, but nothing as extensive as Rick Steve's guidebooks. In the back of the book, there are decent explanations of practicalities (food, scams, etc). It's worth the price, but I've found more adventurous things to do online.

Gotta have it...
I’m a Lonely Planet fan and thought this guide was of its typical fine quality. We traveled for 3 weeks by train through Rajasthan and enjoyed reading about the towns ahead while on the train. In the age of the internet my hubs and thought a guide book wouldn’t be necessary but we relied heavily upon it and enjoyed the restaurant, tourism, and accommodation advice. Scams were specific to towns and cities and lonely planet always gave us a heads up on the local “scam du jour”.

Same info as the LP India guide - was hoping for lots of new stuff
No more on Rajasthan than the LP India Guidebook I already bought -- it is almost the same, word-for-word. Disappointed in lack of content.

Earlier I submitted for a review of another guide (Rajasthan Travel Guide 2004) which was so bad I applied to return within an hour of receipt. I bought this guide to replace it and do not regret the choice. Good quality paper, lots of useful illustrations with small maps of individual towns and cities, and advice on the places to visit. I particularly liked the background information on the food culture, a desert region so there are few fresh vegetables. Not only do you learn about what to see but the history of that building and how it fits into the local culture and experience.. Yes I like and recommend.
