SIOTI 39mm Lens Hood, Oxidation Matte Anti Reflective Treatment, Aluminum Alloy, with 1 * 58mm Lens Cap, Compatible with Sony/Canon/Nikon/Fuji etc >24mm Camera Lens

I bought this Sioti hood for my Sony PZ 16-50mm OSS E-mount lens. From a practical point, and from the looks of it, this really isn't a lens hood; it's more a circular "crash bar" to help protect the front element of the lens than providing any substantial shading. I may be wrong in this; time will tell. I chose the Sioti because it comes with an oversized lens cap and the hood attaches by threading into the lens barrel. What's nice about the 58mm lens cap is it fits into, and attaches to, the front opening of the hood; it's much easier to handle than the tiny 40.5mm Sony cap. There are fine ridges machined into the inner edge of the hood the latches on the cap engage; the cap stays firmly in place. The outer edge location of the latches also make using the big cap a lot nicer as well. Also included in the kit was a lens cleaning cloth. The potential downside to using the big cap are the three large slots cut into the hood around its perimeter; using the big cap means "stuff" may get through these slots and onto the lens. How much of a concern this is depends on whether you're a UV (or Sky, or Haze) filter user or not. The Sioti lens hood is internally threaded to allow installing a 40.5mm filter. If you thread your UV (or Sky or Haze) filter into the the lens hood, you have protection; "stuff" getting through the slots will end up on your filter, not your lens element. The threading feature of the hood can work nicely if you have to stack a couple of filters (ND filters come to mind). You can potentially eliminate vignetting by threading one filter into the lens (between the lens and hood) with the second filter threaded into the hood ...or both threaded into the hood. Overall, this is a very lightweight, high quality, metal lens hood with very useful features and nice details. While the outside of the hood is painted in a satin black, the inside is painted in flat black. Even the branding is low key; the name "Sioti 40.5mm" is placed on the inner flange of the hood and is relatively hidden when the hood is mounted on the lens. The one thing most lens hoods provide is protection from glare. I don't doubt this hood can provide *some* level of glare protection, but this is not your normal lens hood; don't assume it will provide the same level as a more traditional hood. Despite this short coming, I highly recommend this hood and cap combination. Details: - Fully threaded into the lens, and without a filter, the hood extends 7/16" from the face of the lens; no vignetting was observed. - Installing a filter between the lens and hood pushed it out 5/8" from the face of the lens; no vignetting was observed. - Installing a single filter into the internal threads of the hood produced no vignetting; the big cap can be installed. - The overall diameter of the hood is approx. 2.5", the same diameter of the zoom ring on the PZ 16-50mm OSS lens.

Nikon did not include a lens hood with the 70 -300 lens. The first hood I bought for it had a bayonet mount. The hood kept falling off. I bought this hood because it screwed on. This hood stays on. I also liked the idea I could rotate my circular polarizer by rotating the hood. I don’t have to reach into the hood to use the polarizer. The lens cap that came with the hood is another plus. Again, I don’t have to reach into the hood to remove or install the lens cap. The hood is solid and well made of metal not the cheap plastic most hoods are made of. I don’t know why they included a ”cap keeper”. It is nothing more than a piece of string that has no means of attaching it to the lens or the cap. Since I don’t use cap keepers, I stuck the string in a drawer and will probably just throw it away. Vignetting is not a problem on a longer lens. The hood may not be as long as other hoods, but it does a great job of keeping stray light out of the lens. Inexpensive, well made and works. What else do you need!

It's not a Nikon lens hood, but it's good enough. Especially when vintage, over 50 year-old HN-9 hoods are priced at more than $100. Not that I'm opposed to spending on original gear, in fact I'm often happy to. But when about all I can get when selling my FTN camera body is $100, then the $10 lens hood seems a better value in comparison. Onto the hood: It fits on my 20mm ƒ3.5 non-AI lens, and accepts filters. It's made from a lesser grade and thinner metal than my vintage Nikon hoods. The matte black finish is anti-reflective, of course, but probably isn't very scratch resistant. I doubt it'll handle any meaningful impact, nor that its cylindrical shape would hold up to any significant pressure. No matter — I'm not a war correspondent. The packaging is quite nice, and includes the hood, a squeeze-type cap, and lens cloth. The 72mm wide angle hood dimensions are 110mm x110mm x 28mm. (Inside of cap reads 95mm.) I expect that since I'm using this hood on a 20mm full-frame lens on a micro four thirds camera that vignetting will not be an issue.

Excellent product

This works excellent on my 24-70mm canon lens. It keeps the sun off the lens, but more importantly it keeps the rain off which is the main reason I purchased this. I’m often shooting in the rain or in spray blowing in off the ocean. It gives me a good place to secure the camera rain cover. I can also quickly put on the lens cap to keep water off the lens. Works excellent. The only drawback is the lens cap can fall off fairly easily, probably only a matter of time before I loose it.

Mine arrived with a scratch/blemish on the outside of the hood, like they used a clamp on it when making the hood and it slipped a bit during machining maybe. The included lens cap has some damage on it as well but fits securely. The cap is threaded slightly larger than the one that goes on your lens so you have to use the new cap or replace it. The metal hood itself is otherwise well made and designed, and made of thicker aluminum than I thought it would be which is nice. Also the mm size marking on the outside lines up perfectly facing down when screwed into my 100/2 which pleases me. The interior has a machined ribbing to reduce reflection.
