If you have injured your ankle and need a brace to protect and support it, this is it!
I injured my ankle very badly in an automobile accident. The ER we went to wasn't very concerned at all, so I thought I must be OK even tho I could not stand to bear any weight on that foot. Finally I went to see my Primary Care Doc. He ordered new xrays and saw that I had really torn up the main controller of the ankle/foot that goes right down the top front of the leg. He sent me right then to purchase a McDavid Brace at the local Sports store. It helped quite a bit. I even wore it to bed for about a week and finally got to sleep through the night! Since then I have purchased 3 more McDavids, plus one other one that kind of looked like a McDavid, but it was not. The McDavid fits more snugly and has enough shoe laces that it is very easy to lace it up fully and tie a nice big knot. The other brand's shoe laces need to be much longer, and after wearing the other brand for several hours my foot feels like it has gone to sleep. This doesn't happen with the McDavid which I wear all day long! My ankle is slowly getting stronger, but I realize that this injury will probably never be fully well, and will be likely to reinjure. This is why I went ahead and bought more McDavids. I can wash one pair out and wear another, and if one breaks eventually I will have spares. I am very thankful that my doctor was aware of this brand and sent me to get the first one. It has made a big difference in my mobility!

Straps would help...solution
If you are stuck with this version rather than the one with the straps like me and you have a thin sleeve support with straps like I do, then you can wear both. I have the Mueller one. I don't think it cost much. It can be worn under or over. I wouldn't of bought this if my sleeve had a sticky bottom to keep it from sliding, so when out I wear my sleeve under. BTW, it still slid with the sticky bottom when I bowled, but just not as much.As for the product, maybe high tops would do about the same thing when you are out as long as the high tops had plenty of cushion. With that said, you can wear this in bed and it goes quite well with my Mueller sleeve with straps. As for my condition, I have not been able to see the doctor yet. I guess if I remember I will edit this with that info. I jammed my ankle bowling, which is something I do quite a bit, but this time it was worse. At the time I didn't think it was worse, but later bowling proved otherwise. It's either a high ankle or cartilage tear or fractured talus or something lol. Maybe you can tell me, so my doctor won't need to MRI me.

Perfect!
I broke my fibula and it hasn’t been fun but leaving the boot is the worst feeling ever! I feel like I have jello in my ankle but this really has helped me bear weight and keep a sneaker on for a long period of time because of where it grips my arch’s it feels really comfortable. Only thing I would suggest is go a size bigger, it’s super super snug and if you have an injury you don’t want to pull too hard to get it on.

Horrible Brace!
Horrible, horrible horrible! Took 15 minutes to get on and get it laced up and then took 15 minutes to get it off and unlaced. I hate this thing. Then it cut into my foot and ankle and hurt a lot. Provides little to know support. Basically a waste of time and money.

Was hoping it'd be better.
Wear this with a sock - there is an annoying tag that hurts a bit when you put this on.That being said - this wasn't as good as I was hoping. I had a bad sprain and this made it hurt worse one day when I wore it. I don't know if it was how I was resting my foot/ankle... or if the laces were too tight... but it hurt a lot when I took it off. (sadly, I ignore pain unless it is severe, so I didn't realize it was hurting more and more until it was hurting a lot)When I'm standing, (using crutches) This does help to keep the ankle supported and prevent it from over working.I don't care for the laces at all - I'd prefer it if it were wraps/velcro, (like a velcro sneaker)The problem with the laces is it's hard for me to get the right tension in all the areas unless someone else is tying the laces - and even then, it's not always optimal. It's just ok.

Any Amount of Tedium is Worth Relief!
Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction = PTTD for short. Tendon on inside of your ankle hurts like you wouldn't believe. Any pointing downward or curling inward when you sleep is unbearable (try standing up on your tip toes on just the foot that hurts - you won't be able to hold it). An orthotist made a custom brace for me, but we commercial fish in the winter, and it won't go into my waders. I purchased this, used stick on Velcro on an arch support, and that helped me get thru what I needed to do.Another reviewer stated this was tedious to put on. It is a bit difficult. I found that you must remove lace from the top two loops, loosen all the others all the way down, and sit over it in a low chair or stool - the toilet also seems to be the perfect height. Don't try to pull your foot up and fasten it from the side or you'll mis-lace it. The other braces have metal grommets and the laces go up (or down) thru the grommets. This creates pressure points, so this loop style where the force goes across the opening is much more comfortable. I also tried a brace with plastic stays on the side, but could not wear because of the swelling. That was not a problem at all with the gel-filled sides of this brace.

Best one yet
I've tried MANY braces. this one is actually better than the "fitted" brace I paid over $300 for. I use it windsurfing and is very comfortable and highly effective.
