Orchiata is a standalone orchid growing substrate that can be used directly from the bag for potting and re-potting orchids, produced from the finest quality, 100% pure New Zealand Pinus radiata bark. Pinus radiata is sourced from renewable, man-made forests ensuring availability into the future. New Zealand Pinus radiata is a hard and stable bark compared to other pine species; however, it needs to be processed from its raw state. Our unique natural process creates a high quality, stable, long lasting, toxin free, consistent growing substrate available in different sizes for your specific growing needs. Our process allows Orchiata to hold water and nutrients on the outside layer of each chip, as well as creating a slightly rough surface for roots to anchor to. Pathogens do not survive this process; however beneficial micro-organisms remain. Growers' have reported that frequent re-potting is not necessary, as potted plants have been known to remain in excellent condition in excess of 10 years. It is available in five convenient sizes: Ex Small (1/8" 4-6mm), Small (3/8" 6-9mm), Medium (1/2" 9-12mm), Large ¾" 12-18mm) and Ex Large (1" 18-25mm). Review: This product is excellent for small or young orchids. - I also use it to top off repotted larger orchids. Very clean and consistent in size. This purchase was to see if it was something I would like and I do very much. But it is not very good value-wise. I ordered the same product/brand in the 40 Liter size which is equivalent to 10.58 gallons. At the gallon price it would cost $184.18. desertcart price for 40 liter is $63! So I am getting a lot of bark for 1/3 the cost. It doesn't go bad and I will be repotting for many years. Review: Great soil amendment - Used as an amendment for my houseplants, in the smallest size. I love this orchid bark and will purchase it again!

Best bark ever
Love this bark. I purchased for my orchids. It smells amazing, and I especially like that it is all uniform, so it makes potting so much easier as it fit perfectly in between roots and keeps plant well secured and steady. I am definitely sticking to orchiata bark for all my orchid potting needs.

Perfect for Bonsai
I started using this than the regular pine bark I get from garden centers. The Small and Extra Small is perfect for Bonsai. It is much more uniform in size. It is far easier to sift and far less waste than regular pine bark. I came across this product accidentally. I only wish I had found this sooner. I now use it in all my bonsai soil mixes.

This is a small size (6-9mm) orchiata bark. As the listing says, the bark has been re-sealed in a ziploc-style bag. It shipped in a small, sturdy US Postal Service box (one corner of the box was dented on arrival but there was no damage to the bag or bark). As can be typical for orchiata it had an extremely strong pine smell when opened, underlaid with slight mustiness, and was not noticeably degraded or broken down in any way. The listing says this product is shipped from Canada although the product arrived in a US Postal Service box, which I found confusing. However, if it did originate in the USA that could explain the high price point and shipping delay. During the three weeks that it took this product to arrive I found an online Canadian seller where, for just a dollar more than I paid for this one bag, I got two 3L bags of bark, one 3L bag of sponge rock, four orchid pots, and shipping. They arrived in 1/3 the length of time. Photos are a close-up of the product in this listing to show bark size, and a comparison of this product (left) with the variety of products (right) I received from a Canadian seller for one dollar more in 1/3 the time. This is a good product, exactly what I was looking for when I ordered. However, if you are buying in Canada it would definitely be worth your time and your dime to shop around a little more before buying. I wish I had!

I was happy to see the smaller pieces in the bag. My previous bark was too big and didn't work well for, say, a 4" pot because you can only break them up so small without taking an axe to them! This stuff works much better for me and I recommend it. Just wish I bought a bigger bag!

Buyer Beware. I ordered this expecting to receive the 2.5 Gallons as indicated in the title description however I only received 1 Gallon.
