Still going strong!
I can't believe my EXTREMELY picky husky has eaten these three days in a row... that's right, the girl who won't eat dog treats (just politely takes them and places them on the ground) actually consumes these. Now, they do have a bit of a garlic scent, and your dog may not like that, but my girl has had no problems (note: garlic is only very mildly toxic to dogs, damaging red blood cells much in the way that onions do... but at these levels it is nothing your dog can't compensate for...seriously, the zinc would be more toxic than the garlic contents). She also has a very sensitive stomach and I've been surprised to find that she has had no problems so far (crossing fingers!). She was diagnosed with zinc-responsive dermatosis after some non-healing lesions on her lip/face failed to respond to antibiotics and my crook-of-a-vet suggested a $800 biopsy under sedation... I should have done some reading, zinc-deficiency from low absorption is a common problem of old age (she's 11) for northern breeds. The degree of absorption defect is unknown and not measurable (zinc blood levels poorly reflect zinc status, as it is sequestered in tissues), and zinc supplements have a reputation for upsetting stomachs. This is why I am currently at half the starting dose for the first week, we will then proceed with the recommended dose for four weeks before considering a further increase in accordance with veterinary guidelines. I will add more info in a few weeks after we've given her skin a chance to respond to the additional zinc. UPDATE: Months later, 1 tab on most days (I sometimes forget...) and her lesions are significantly better. She still has no problem eating this supplement. I do break up the pills and add them to her food (takes a bit of effort). Zinc is required the certain enzymes that break down collagen and elastin in injured tissues (matrix metalloproteinases ...look it up!). Zinc is very important for good health and proper healing of even minor irritations, scratches, scrapes, wounds. Consider this inexpensive supplement if your northern-breed dog has skin problems!

The fix for my dog's skin problems.
I have a siberian husky who has been stuck in a cone for months due to itching. After being told by my vet that my dog's skin issues were due to allergies, and not having ANY change after giving her allergy medicine and changing her food, I looked for alternatives. ZRD or Zinc Responsive Dermatitis is actually relatively common in northern breeds, but can happen in other breeds as well. Many vets are not aware of it though. I had seen pictures of dogs suffering from ZRD with the sores around their mouths and eyes but discounted ZRD as the problem with my dog because she had general itching all over, and her hair loss was mostly on her underside. After she just kept getting worse, I did more research. Although it USUALLY presents as hair loss around the mouth and eyes, it can also be hair loss/itching in other sensitive areas like armpits or the genital area! The only way to test for ZRD is to do a skin biopsy, so I chose to just get the Zinc supplements and see if they had an effect. After one week, I started seeing less hair loss. After 2 she lost some of her itchy spots (she was so bad just petting her back got her legs thumping). It has now been a little over a month since we started and she is only slightly itchy. Hair has grown back in some areas that have been bald for months. It is such a relief to finally know what caused her itchiness and how to fix it. In regards to taste, my dog gives it 0 out of 5 stars however. The discs are too big to fit in pill pockets, so I grind them up into a powder with a pestle and mix it in some wet food. My dog is EXTREMELY picky with food though, so your mileage may vary.

Not happy with this product
Not happy with this product. I ordered Beryle Zinpro as pictured but the product I recieved has a label that says Boreal Zinpro. Last year I tried the top dressing Beryle Zinpro and my dogs loved the taste. They hate these tablets and will not eat them. My friend's huskies would not eat these tablets either. I'm so disappointed. What a waste of money!

Not bad, not great
Changed to these from another brand since I needed them fast. These ones are small and thinner than the others I usually get my dog but they also don’t have a good flavor. This means I have to be creative to get him to eat it. Definitely prefer the others that he will just eat on his own. Good price and same amount of zinc per pill though so that’s a positive.
