great little dock
i purchased 'the pipe' for use in my newly remodeled bathroom ~ needed good sound for the long hot baths ~ i needed something that would fit on a small shelf ~ everything else i was looking at was way to expensive ~ this pipe takes up very little room ~ i am very impressed with the quality of the sound from this very small docking station as well ~ the remote is very easy to use ~ it also has the option of being plug in or battery operated ~ so it is very portable ~ i believe i will be giving more of these for gifts this year ~ i would highly recommend this item to anyone who enjoys their music ~

Much better than expected
Having read many reviews whilst looking for travel speakers for the iphone these kept coming up so I went for the black rather than chrome based on price and no other apparent difference. The simple points are:Yes it will make your iphone display the not compatible sign, just go ahead and ignore it, mine hasn't shown any noticeable interference and I have not used flight mode etc.For a set of small speakers and if you are not an audiophile comparing them to a high end system then the sound is more than adequate for say hotel rooms picnics etc.Build quality appears quite solid certainly not flimsy.I had not realised that they would work soley on the battery source but they do with no real impairment of the soundI have not really used the remote so can't comment on thatI would say that if you were to get these then the only real note of caution would be that you would have to be more aware of the individual recording settings when creating the MP3 etc tracks to play through them, (as you may find yourself using them more than you thought :) ) but that applies to most devices. All in all an excellent purchase at a fair price (I paid just over $50) and it has definitely made me more likely to buy Skullcandy products in future. (This was the first I had purchased)The only real constructive criticism I could make is that it is such a good little package that it would be a real boost to have a compact travel case for the pieces as I plan on using them more than I anticipated, (I have already started taking them to the office)

Suitable for Travel
I bought this for travel with my iPhone. I wanted to wake to my music alarm, but haven't figured out how to make it work. Also, get a popup everytime I dock the iPhone, says it's not compatible with attachment. I was warned by previous viewers about this, but didn't realize the anoyance and possible reason music alarm was not working as planned. BTW, it is small and very suitable for travel; sounds OK. I gave it two stars mostly for lack of my planned use; which was not it's advertised purpose.

Second unit. Volume changes on its own. Scratched
I was initially impressed with the sound quality out of such a small speaker. After 2 minutes of first use, the volume started increasing uncontrollably, whether I used the remote or the touch volume, it would increase until max volume over 5-10 seconds. I tried cleaning my iPhone 30 pin connector (4S, a compatible device per instructions) with condensed air as instructed in previous posts, no effect. I returned this unit (unable to exchange with seller), reordered an additional unit (same model), and the second unit does the opposite right out of the box. It will uncontrollably LOWER the volume over 5-10 seconds to minimum volume. In addition there is a nice scratch across the entire front of the second unit, probably from poor packaging (nothing to protect the front of the device while in its manufacture box) or it was a returned item... Not sure. There is a reason these are at basement prices... not worth the hassle.

Very compact
It is a very compact speaker and can put out some sound but as expected it doesn't have much bass. It works well in our kitchen.

Small footprint, big sound, easy to use
I'm not an audiophile. I just wanted a small speaker to play music from my iPod Touch when I didn't feel like wearing earbuds. This Skullcandy speaker is very small compared to some other docks/speakers I looked at, but it produces a very big sound in the 15x15 room where I typically use it. It's a single-purpose device (i.e., speakers only -- no clock or other functionality), with a physical docking port (vs. bluetooth), which limits its uses but also makes it very easy to use. The included remote is very handy -- simple, works well, and lets me put the dock out of the way. Reliability has been very good.

Cool Docking Station That's iPhone 3Gs - Compatible After All
This was our first docking station, and I was looking for something that sounded good and looked great, too. I didn't want anything tacky and large, since I'm funny about the way things look. I bought this dock for my sons, who have basic iPod Shuffles. Although they cannot charge them on this unit, there is none, according to Apple, that both charges and plays for the basic Shuffle; perhaps Apple will work on that next. Anyway, we've found it was a good purchase, because my boys can still play their music, by plugging it in, and I can charge and play my iPhone 3Gs; this was an added bonus, since I had read online that the iPhone was incompatible. Now, there is an error message that pops up, when I dock my iPhone, but you simply click "ignore" and use it anyway. (NOTE: I was given that advice by the manufacturer, and it has proven to be OK) The pipe charges and plays wonderfully, and the remote is very handy, though it can't be used at great distances. And, yes, the remote works when my phone is docked! : ) We're very pleased.
