It has a switch, but it is on the submerged motor in the water. Thus, it is not practical. You have to plug and unplug it.

Q: can i put a fountain crystal ball in it?

Can't say for sure without knowing exactly what your 'crystal ball' is, however the pools are small and the stream from one pool to the next (when the reservoir is full) is fairly thick. My guess is you'd risk having the water spatter out of the pools onto the unit or whatever it is placed on.
