Indestructible carry on
Pelican quality in a convenient size that gives you the option of carrying delicate items on board but not stressing if you have to check the case. SUPER durable, lots of “upgrades” available e.g. foam divider kits, lid organisers with zippered pouches, and my personal favorite ColorCase wheels (all available at Amazon).

Perfect for transporting podcasting gear
Great case. Worked exactly as I had expected. I purchased this case to transport a small collection of podcasting and live streaming gear to and from various tech conferences. I had no problems getting all of my gear into the case. Two layers of foam allowed me to get even more gear into the case than I had expected. The hinges and latches are very stiff - which I like. If I somehow manage to forget to latch (and use a padlock on the reinforced locking ports), then I doubt that the case would open on its own. I also like that I can order additional foam inserts for different configurations of gear. As far as travel, it's utilitarian, and tough. The wheels are protected, so they don't get beat up. The telescoping handle is much sturdier than other carry-ons - it's a sheet of plastic that slides along the bottom and is held in place by a simple plastic tab. That makes it a little heavier, but I bought this for protection, not weight. It rolls very well, and I never had any issues pulling it along through airports. It fits perfectly in the overhead bin - I'd argue that it fits better than most bags, since it's a hard shell and doesn't have any zippers or bulging pouches to get caught on the bin door or another case. If I travel without my gear, I would likely use this as my carry-on. I would absolutely recommend this for other travelers with gear they need to protect.

Great Case!
This thing is a tank! An airline, (cough) Alaska (cough), took their best shot at breaking it, including a decent size melted spot, but it survived. Love that it is carry on size. With the foam removed it holds a surprising amount of clothes and travel necessities. Buy once, cry once!

Pelican 1510
First thing's first - I got the desert tan 1510 with foam top and bottom. I went with the foam because I wanted a little more security for my Canon 7D and lenses. (I didn't want any movement) The case is brilliant - the desert tan looks great and it's easy to find among many camera cases when I'm on set. What's even better is the fact that it specifically meets the required dimensions for a carry on bag - no more worrying about the TSA getting a new camera! The roller wheels come in handy and have excellent bearings, The handles have rubber grips that feel good when carrying it. It's tough as nails and gets the job done. I was recently on a beach/dune music video shoot and We used our 1510 as a platform for our hi-hat (basically a tripod head that's flat on the bottom) in the water! No sand or water got in, and thats when I knew I made the right purchase. If you are torn between the padded pockets or the foam, don't worry too much - just think about what you are looking for and how much usable space you need. I'll add an update soon - as I am flying to Colorado and will test out it's carry-on ability. ***UPDATE (DEC 2015)*** It's been a couple years and this case is still amazing. It's held up on all kinds of location shoots and studio shoots. It's served as an emergency apple box as well as a temporary airport seat. This thing just won't break. Regarding the foam on the inside - pluck and peel is great but up until the point you have new equipment, basically get new foam or get the padded dividers if you change gear. Overall, one of the best purchases I've made. If you need any convincing, this is it.

Deceivingly spacious - perfect for camera gear
First off, I should mention that I bought this case specifically for photography gear. I'm a wedding/event photographer and need to transport my gear to/from locations and wanted something a bit more durable and easier to work out of. My goal was to be able to put my more expensive primary items in this case, while still using my backpack for outdoor (mobile) shooting. When I first unboxed the case, I thought I was going to have to buy a larger one. I was pleasantly surprised with how much gear I was able to fit after spending a morning carefully breaking away the pre-cut cube foam. Keep this in mind. You will need to sit yourself down for several hours carefully shaping the foam. I found it quite enjoyable despite the fact that I watched Manchester United lose (again) while doing this. Just take your time and try to leave about 2 layers of foam between the heavier items. FYI: Inspect the foam grid before you start breaking out the pieces you don't need! There is a seam that runs along the middle in the horizontal and vertical directions that is slightly wider than the pre-cut squares. It's hard to explain, but you'll notice it if you just take one close look. I would suggest you try to leave these 2 seams untouched as they will give the foam a tiny bit more rigidity. For reference, here's the gear that I'm storing in this case: - Canon 1D-series body (w/ eyepiece extender and an Arca Swiss plate plus CustomSLR C-loop on bottom) - Canon 6D body (w/ eyepiece extender and CustomSLR C-loop on bottom) - 24-70mm 2.8L lens w/ hood attached - 135mm 2.0L lens w/ hood attached - 16-35mm f/2.8L *without the hood* or 35mm f/1.4L lens - 3 Canon Speedlites (more on this below)*** - Some slots plucked out for smaller items (16 AA batteries, extra 1D battery, extra 6D battery, 6D charger, 3 Speedlite shoes, 8 card SD card holder. I work out of this case when I'm on location. If I'm going to go mobile, I'll pick out what I need and throw it in my backpack. ***Note retarding Speedlites: I have 600EX's. This case is about 1/4" too shallow to place them vertically. If you could, there would be even more space for gear. I have 2 of the flashes laying on top of each other and the 3rd is placed in a slot where the head is tilted in the 90-degree position. If you have 580EX (or something other) check the length. If they are at least 1/4 inch shorter when the head is pointed directly up, this case will hold a bit more gear. After thinking about the purchase of this specific case a bit more, I will likely buy a second identical one so I have a place for the rest of my photography related gear (brackets, extra card holders, 70-200 f2.8L IS lens, 1D series body charger (which is big), AA chargers, etc.) I'm not going to question the durability of any Pelican case. I have 2 others that I've been using for many years and they are as close to indestructible as you can get. It's a very safe purchase that will last a very long time. Keep in mind that these cases hold their value should you decide to sell it a year or 3 down the road. I'll snap a photo of my layout and upload it here ASAP.

Case is very well constructed and built to last. The foam was easy to configure but in retrospect, it might have been wiser to have gotten the padded dividers so reconfiguration is possible. It's possible to retrofit with dividers so nothing lost in getting this. Camera and lenses now have a safe and secure place.

Finally got my Pelican case and it is awesome for my work tools. Very handy and easy to carry and it meets airport and airline dimensions for both hand carry and checked-in size. I am sure this will last for years of travel and rugged use.
