I REALLY like these! They are just perfect!
I was reading the other reviews; and, since I have the entire Redwall series,(before the unfortunate death of Brian Jacques) I wanted to get some bookends, plus I like dragons a lot, so I figured these would be perfect. I think the dragons look awesome, as well doing the job wonderfully! As someone else mentioned, they are very heavy, and they also come with some kind of rubber pads on the bottom. There is also a star on the back that someone believed was a pentagram, (often thought of as evil) it is not however. It is what is known as a pentacle. I think what one of the other reviewers did mention, was the fact that they didn't seem to grip where they were set very well. I have noticed though, that if placed on a smooth even surface, they WILL grip.

Exceptional quality!
Fantastic quality! Heavy and solid. Very impressive looking and not identical! The paint jobs are great but slightly different. Love these. Company was phenomenal as well. One came with a broken nose, they sent the entire order again and had them to me in 2 days. Told me to keep the others. Very impressed!

six years-old and still delightful
Update: Nine years old and still wonderful!---I was given these as a gift way back in 2009 and I've had them ever since. They're beautiful, with lots of little details that I sometimes like to take the time to look at. They painting hasn't peeled or showed signs of aging in six years. They're heavy and extremely well-balanced - I've had one hanging halfway off the edge of my bookcase for about a year now (too many books!) and it's never fallen. I read some of the poor reviews and honestly don't understand how anyone can call the make of these bookends "sloppy." They're unique and well-made, especially for the price. I've enjoyed them.

Cool bookends...
These are nice. It looks decent. The star on the back is not a satanic symbol or whatever as a bunch of people said. Look it up, you're already on the internet. Information is within your reach.Basic paint job, nothing spectacular, just a spray coat and some dry-brushing to spruce it up. Doesn't seem to rub off too easily, looks pretty good, and it holds up my books... I haven't tried loading them up with a heavy load. I just use them to display a certain few. I bought a book shelf to carry the bulk of my books. Celtic borders look pretty cool with these dragons in this color palette. I think these would make a perfect display with the Devery series of books by Katherine Kerr, which also have a celtic motif and is in a fantasy setting. These make for a nice display set for showing off certain types of books.

Beautiful As Is, But Could Be Amazing With a Detailed Paint Job
These bookends have a decent heft to hold the books in place. You can't see it here, but the edge of the bookend part has a nicely done Celtic rope weave along it. The dragon is very detailed and quite beautifully terrifying. The teeth are painted white. The eyes are without compassion. It sparks your imagination when you realize it is the color of aged copper, complete with the patina an artifact would have if excavated in an archaeological dig dating from the bronze age, as if crafted by some ancient artisan who actually lived among and saw dragons, thus tying it in with it's Celtic tones. This would be awesome on your bookshelves where you keep fantasy books, in the living room to set the mood for your entertainment center (which is where mine are), on the front porch right behind a motion activated mini-strobe light on Halloween--to terrify the littlest of the Trick or Treaters--like I love to do, or in any room which features dragons or mythical creatures. Oh, they would also be awesome on the back of the toilet tank or on the shelving above it, to hold your bathroom readers. They would also fit a Celtic relics or Druidic collection, such as a Merlin or King Arthur collection. A person who writes would find inspiration from these as they work at their computer. It lived up to my expectations and more. I didn't expect such great detail. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because after seeing how awesome the detail and artwork is, I felt it could have been finely painted to look amazing. It's wonderful for what it is, but the potential is built into it to be much more. But thinking about it, I suppose they didn't do that because it would skyrocket the price and because everyone would want a different colored dragon.I would strongly suggest you plan on taking this on as a craft and painting it in rich detail. It's worth it and it has so much potential. At that point it would easily rate a five and at this value it could even push the boundaries of the rating system.Whether you plan to have fun painting it or not, it is so worth the price. If you like dragons, Celtic items, or fantasy or mystical items, you should have this. I have lots of dragons and I've never been happier with a dragon art purchase.

Great bookends
Ok, so my first experience with the bookends was not good at all as they came in broken and I had to super glue them just to make use of them since I didn't want to go through the hassle of a return or refund. However the customer service was excellent. as soon as they saw my initial negative review they immediately asked how they could fix it. I sent pics of the broken items received and they immediately sent a replacement without a hassle at no charge at all. The replacements arrived today and they look great - in perfect condition! I would definitely recommend the product.

An excellent addition to our dragon library
I bought my wife Naomi Novik's "His Majesty's Dragon" series for Christmas 2021 and got her Marie Brenan's "A Natural History of Dragons" series for Christmas 2022. And, of course, these book ends for the lot. The book ends are very well done. They are sturdy, well weighted to keep your books up and have nice felt feet so as to not scratch your book shelves.

These bookends are quite nice! Great detail and the size is just right for my hardcover books (see photos). I have three shelves and will definitely buy two more sets now that I know they will work.

Who painted this? Where is quality control?
Bought a slightly different set which came unpainted (black) which are five star. This pair is painted and is done well except for the white which looks like it's done on the fly or an after thought. Strans of cheap white web the teeth and a sloppy brush runs down the spine. It's as if they gave it to a young child to finish. Still like both sets. Would buy unpainted ones again.
