Excellent WiFi extender from TP-Link.

Excellent WiFi extender from TP-Link.This is a self contained WiFi repeater/extender that works flawlessly. It's my first piece of TP-Link network gear and after a little research, this seemed to be one of the items I kept coming back to.It's a plain white box with 4 LED indicators along the bottom showing power, link status and which of the WiFi signals is currently connected and being forwarded from this device ( 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz )After reading the large instruction sheet, it seemed pretty straighforward and it was. I opted to use the Android app. called ' Tether '. After creating a Login & Password, it's as easy as following the on-screen prompts on your phone. As long as you have the router password and know the SSID you're golden. I was up and running with a phone and a tablet out in the back garden, a long way from the router wifi source with a decently strong signal. It's way stronger and faster than the previous Netgear repeater, by no less than six times faster and a full strong signal strength.I've been using it all afternoon since setting it up and have no issues at all.It is very unobtrusive and has no external antenna like the outgoing Netgear model which is a big plus, it's very lightweight and runs fairly cool. There's a little heat when under load, but barely noticeable and nothing to be concerned with. The LEDs are plain warm white when all is working well, and may change to red if there's an issue. It appears to be a fit and forget device which I appreciate.Overall, I'm extremely impressed with my first TP-Link device and really is great value for money.

Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy

I recently encountered a situation whereby my router was being switched off by a terror-toddler which necessitated router relocation, and due to the placement of the Virgin Media cable this could only be to a far corner of our home.During winter this was fine as we weren't spending much time in the garden at the other end of the house, but now warmer weather has arrived things have changed and I'm finding that the WiFi is dropping out when sitting outside. This device was purchased for just over twenty Great British Pounds and is a bargain when compared to a new AX router or mesh system.I'm a gadget-lover and have never had trouble with such things, that has to be noted. From removing the product from its box, it was plugged in and the status light was flashing, a five second journey to the router and a push of the WPS button, then back again to push the same button on the device and one by one the lights for 2.4 and 5ghz also lit up and remained solid. No more than 30 seconds and two (my RT AC 3200 has one 2.4 and two 5ghz radios) extended WiFi connections appeared in the list of available networks on my phone suffixed with _EXT and simply required entry of the existing WPA2 password. It automatically extended the 2.4ghz and the first 5ghz radios.Signal is now strong in the garden, it has a Blink Mini camera, Netatmo, Blink Studio, Chromecast Ultra connected to it and its all flawless. It uses about two watts according to my IHD.As for any bad reviews, I would say as with any networking equipment, know what your requirements are and research because it's not one size fits all.If your house is mahoosive you're going to need more than one or a dedicated multi point mesh system. If your house has walls like Fort Knox, the 5ghz band from this won't pass through them any easier than the 5ghz band from your router. If you want OneMesh, you also require a OneMesh router. If you run a hotel, a small consumer device isn't what you require for your guest WiFi system. For what I need, it's perfect, it's cheap, it took 30 seconds to get up and running without any apps or setup other than plugging it in and pushing two WPS buttons. I'm on Virgin 200mb, as per the photo I get almost full speed sitting a few metres away from the device. If you have an AC band router, averaged size house and want to extend your network slightly, this is for you. If you live in Buckingham Palace and want to extend your network to the drawing room 400 metres away, probably not.

Does the job but be security aware.

I purchased a TP-Link AC1200 Mesh Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender purely to extend my home WiFi signal into a corner of the garden where my WiFi pellet grill sits under a gazebo and for this purpose the extender works well when matched to the pellet grill, the app and an old ipad that I use for nothing else. Set up (choice of 3 methods) was a breeze and I immediately got the signal strength I needed. Be aware that unless you have a TP-Link Mesh router then the transition between base router and the extender won't be seamless, a separate router name_EXT (extension) network is set up and there is a need to switch between the two. Also on latter Apple operating systems (IOS 14 and above) the extension network is highlighted as having "weak security". TP-Link have comprehensive help online available to help resolve this, in my case I cant be bothered given how I plan on using the extended network just on a pellet grill and WiFi thermometer but additional security would need setting up if I were to consider linking to my mobile phone or main iPad. All in all for minimal expense this item meets my needs perfectly.

Excellent

This is by far the best WiFi extender I have purchased. Easy set up, great signal strength. Works perfectly in the garden and outside cameras etc. Since being set up unlike others it has never dropped out. Very impressed.
