Carson Illuminated LED Lighted 4x Hand Held 3.0'' Aspheric Magnifier (SV-40)

This is a great, little 3 inch hand held 4x Magnifier with an LED light powered by 3 AAA batteries. I bought three of these 12 years ago, and the LED light on one of them no longer worked. So I would say that I certainly got my moneys worth out of it. So I had no hesitation in buying a replacement for it. The LED light is very bright and four times magnification is extremely clear. A great value for the money.

I've owned several of these thruout the years going back to when these were Ultraoptix brand. The optical quality, especially for the price is very good. I have compromised vision and find the 4X zoom with the 3" lens to be a good combination. The LED light works well as long as the magnifier is a few inches away from the object. The only negative is that the lens will scratch fairly easily. I assume this is normal for a plastic lens in this price range. I know all glass more professional models will cost several times more the price of this. But because of these I have ended up replacing a couple of these when the scratches got to the point of noticeably compromising the optical quality.

I purchased the UltraOptix 4X Aspheric LED Lighted Magnifier for use in my agronomy class. We identify several small seeds and plant structures in class. Anyone needing to see small features in detail or has difficulty reading very small text would enjoy this product. This magnifying glass has helped me to easily see small details which help me identify plants and seeds.4X magnification is plenty for a majority of the things I need to view. Several of the other students in my class have the 7X magnification version. 7X may be useful for seeing finer details. The 4X version of this magnifying glass has excellent clarity, size, durability, and ease of use.The magnification clarity is excellent. There does not appear to be any distortion of plants or seeds when I am using this magnifying glass. The 3 inch lens on this magnifying glass is larger than the lens on the 7X version. The larger lens makes it easier to view several seeds at once. The handle is the right shape and size for the average person’s hand. When I am using the magnifier I slide it in and out of my back pocket several times. The compact size makes it easy to keep the magnifier in my backpack. The pocket where I keep the magnifier also contains several miscellaneous items that could damage it. After 6 months of use the magnifier hardly has any scratches on it. I have dropped it several times without damage. Another great feature of this magnifying glass is the built in LED light. This light is very useful in poor lighting situations. The light is simple to use by sliding the switch on the handle. Another feature of this product which makes it easy to use is its one piece design so there is no assembly required between uses.For the price the UltraOptix 4X Aspheric LED Lighted Magnifier is exactly what I expected. I would expect a magnifying glass with this quality to be in the twenty dollar range, however I bought it for around twelve dollars. I was a little disappointed that the product did not come with the 3 AAA batteries that are necessary for the light.Overall, I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone needing to see small things in detail.

I desired a new magnifying glass for studying the detail on antique postcards and to read a couple of low quality books I own. They're basically smeary looking photocopies of old newspaper clippings. Fascinating, but hard to read. I have an attractive magnifying glass I bought elsewhere. It's unlit and has a metal frame and wood handle. Top heavy. Ugh. I love to read in bed and had to hold the book so light would hit it and then fight the annoyance of the boat anchor on a stick.This magnifier is just perfect!1. lightweight and balanced well2. distortion free3. strongly lit4. haven't had to change a battery yet5. low priceI can sit anywhere in the house in low light and study the details on postcards, stamps, and cancellation marks. It has also come in handy in dozens of other situations like reading the numbers on button batteries. These would make a great gift!Edit: tonight "Mr. Cypressgreen" got three tiny splinters in his hand after we moved slabs of bamboo flooring. He was unable to get them out, then remembered that I bought this glass, and asked for it. Shortly thereafter, he retuned it to me (no splinter less) saying, "I don't know what you paid for this, but it's worth every dollar!"

Mine works just fine. The light turns on and the lens is clear. Good magnification. Have wanted a decent size 4x magnify and this works.

I bought this based not only based on the reviews here but on reviews on others that led me back here. I wear contacts for far vision and 3.5 reading glasses for near vision. Still, I was having trouble seeing things. (Did I mention I am only 43!!!!!) I have found that there is a certain way that this need to be held for me to see what I want to see. Once purpose I wanted them for was when the news shares a story only on my phone, which isn't a small phone, and I want to see the picture. I turn the phone sideways so it is bigger and then use this. It does help.I really like it but it seems to be a dust collector and I SWEAR our house stays clean!!!I am unimpressed with the LED light. I LOVE LED lighting!! We have changed many of our lights to LED and have an LED fridge. But this has 1 LED light and it is really in the handle, close to the lens. it is helpful but not as helpful as it could be.
