Review: Still the best - I started to read Phyllis Whitney in my teens, almost 50 years ago. I have all her books in paperback form. I am glad it's now in kindle because those old books are already brittle with age and not easy to hold with out tearing the pages. Her books are extraordinarily well written and are romantic suspense classics. For me, they are the best in the genre of that time. And I have all the popular ones: Mary Stewart, Victoria Holt, Susan Howatch....This is not to say that she has written a couple of books that were not up to her usual standard s like the Moonspinners and Turquoise Mask. But in the whole, her books are real page turners. It is good that the kindle editions now have biographical pictures of her. I truly enjoyed them. Review: Praise for Whitney - I have read her books for many years. I really enjoyed this book but would have to say it didn't really get good until I was 85% through the book. It did hold my interest enough throughout to want to finish it. I am glad I did.

Trembling Hills
I love reading Ms. Whitneyโs books. Each is an adventure and each is different from the other. She writes with style and grace. Her description of the characters and surroundings draw you into the story as if you were there. Would highly recommend them!

Great read, and a lot of history
I first read this book in the late '50 and LOVED it. I is a novel which takes place during the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. It deals with the earthquake, the fire, the evacuations, and the story of people who lived through it. It contains a lot of history, a little "clean" romance, and a lot of action. As a teenager, I had never learned to love reading. When I read this, all that changed and I became a life-long reader! I'd recommend it to anyone, but historical fiction lovers, women, and teenagers will probably be most "taken" with the novel.

Loved it
Always loved Phyllis A Whitney books. She knows how to reel the reader in. I felt like I was in the book along side of the main character. I kept voicing my opinions as I was reading. Was hard to put down. Recommended to anyone who loves Whitney & her style of writing stories.

Still a good read
I've been re-reading Phyllis Whitney books that I enjoyed as a teen. She had the gift of atmospheric suspense that is absent from some many books written today.

Not one of her best, but enjoyable.
Read this when I was younger. Still good but moved slow. Lots of descriptions.

Interesting love story with a twist
Love this writers style. She develops characters and the stories so well. This is a fascinating lesson on the great San Francisco earthquake and the fires that happened after developed around the story of young woman realizing and recognizing love.
