Spoiler-free thoughts for those considering
Here's my review of judgment. Hopefully I did well, and I hope it will help those on the fence Just beat judgement. Here are my thoughts: Gameplay: 7.5/10 The gameplay plays similarly to Yakuza 6 and kiwami 2; however there are improvements that make it better. I do feel the main characters fighting style is meant to look flashy and captivating, which sometimes it is, but the two styles were never really much I alternated between. I found myself constantly fighting in tiger instead of crane. Maybe if the incentive to try each was a little better, I could find myself between the two, but crane was really only used for the wall finisher to knockout multiple foes. I played on hard, so I was really looking for damage, but maybe on a different difficult I would switch between the two more often. Also, tailing missions are not too enjoyable (a gaming curse plagued in the community) and some of the better detective mechanics were thrown to the side. I feel if these detective mechanics were incorporated more, and tailing was done less, the gameplay would be an 8/8.5 Story: 9/10 The story takes on the role of a lawyer who managed to learn martial arts from his father at a young age, and proved the innocence of a man put on trial for murder. (Only .1% of cases like this are proven innocent) That quickly changes as he becomes a disgraced-lawyer-gone-detective attempting to solve the mass homicide plaguing the town. To me, the story remains very consistent with engaging characters, maze-like twists, and a depth of unraveling that forces you to question society as a whole. Moral grey areas are brought to light as the serial killer known to take eyes from his victims run rampant. Easily one of the best stories in the Yakuza universe (Also, as a side note, I love yagami and kaitos friendship. A true bromance that's subtle and not overbearing) Extras: 9/10 Honestly, it's an RGG studios creation jam packed with mini games, side cases, and cat pictures. What I love about the few side cases I played is that each one takes on an interesting story worth solving. Whether it be finding the elusive panty thief, the hidden stalker, or chasing down the wind casted "hat" made so obviously of hair. Each side case feels special as it involves the player in a developed world. If you are looking for a game that gives you a lot more excitement once the games over, look no further. Graphics/Music/Voice Act:8/10 The graphics are always extremely impressive for the Yakuza series. Maintaining expressive faces, beautiful environments, and an aesthetic that matches the overall tone. The music for this game is enjoyable, but not an entire soundtrack download. I feel it hits all the right notes for certain scenes though, and that's still something for me. For the first time I played this universe in English, so the voice acting is different than what most fans are used to. I'm sure the Japanese was great, but I found the English to be mostly enjoyable. The team had a hard task, especially with how expressive character are with their mouths, and managed to pull it off. Some lip syncing is off, some voices are odd choices, but the cast is full of familiar voices that mostly do well. Final thoughts: Overall, this game will probably be my top game for 2019. While tailing missions become extremely boring, they don't happen often and the fantastic narrative paired with improved gameplay manages to keep the player going. During Yagamis journey of redemption; friends are made, morals are questioned, and a struggle dealt within the whole plot feels real. I found true relief, sorrow, and excitement as a nail in the coffin is finally placed and a dark force is brought to justice. I personally rate this game a 9 or a 9.5/10, but objectively give it an 8. A Fantastic game and world worth diving into. My grade 9.5 (hoping it comes to PC to play again)

At least as good as a main installment of the Yakuza series.
For those who are unfamiliar, Judgment is a Yakuza series spinoff that could easily be considered the next installment. It builds off of the new engine from Yakuza 6 and Yauza Kiwami 2, adding in an additional fighting stance, and another new iteration of the famous Kamurocho. What makes these games truly great is the combination of humor and drama, with real actors playing the roles of each major character. It might as well be a long-running TV series turned into a game. The variety of gameplay is staggering as always, with everything from old Sega arcade games to a modern beat-em up to racing drones. The presentation this time is on par with the greatest AAA releases from the biggest budget studios, but the developers do it with a lot less funding. They reiterate on the same areas and concepts and gameplay designs to save on development costs. The downside could be that you may be bored of hanging around the same areas in every game, but somehow it works for them. Maybe it's the fact that it's a real city (Kabukichi) in Japan down to the last detail. The developers had perfected their game formula, in most people's minds, with Yakuza 0. That game was using a very old engine, though. With the new engine, the games took a small step back in some ways, but the potential was there to build into something even greater. Finally, in Judgment, we're seeing it begin to return to full glory. The game features variable difficulty, so there's something for you here even if you want to breeze through the combat. Downsides here are few. You may find some aspects tedious, or you may be sick of Kamurocho by now. But ultimately, even if you just play the game for the story, you're getting a good story that's well acted.

Fun
You will not be disappointed with this game, even though it is a spinoff of the Yakuza Series. It still has the fun elements of the series, just a different character. There are environments, such as the cities, that you would be familiar with in the other Yakuza games. The graphics are excellent, play control is great, and story is awesome. This is another excellent game to add to your collection of the Yakuza Series.

A Masterful Blend of Crime and Justice
As a fan of the Yakuza series, I was beyond excited to hear about the release of Judgment, a game set in the same universe but with a different story and protagonist. After playing through it, I can confidently say that it not only lives up to the high standards set by its predecessors but also offers a fresh take on the open-world crime genre. You play as Takayuki Yagami, a former lawyer turned private detective who is tasked with solving a serial murder case in the bustling city of Kamurocho. The gameplay is a perfect blend of investigation and action, with Yagami having to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and fight off thugs in order to get closer to the truth. The combat system is incredibly satisfying, with a variety of stylish moves and combos that keep the battles feeling fresh and exciting. The story is expertly crafted, with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed and memorable, with Yagami being one of the most likable and relatable protagonists in recent memory. The voice acting, both in Japanese and English, is superb, with every line delivered with convincing emotion and nuance. One of the standout features of the game is the attention to detail in the world-building. Kamurocho feels like a living, breathing city, with every street and alleyway filled with people, shops, and activities. The graphics are stunning, with every building and character model meticulously designed and rendered. The soundtrack is also worth mentioning, with a mix of hard-hitting rock and smooth jazz that perfectly complements the game's tone. My only gripe with the game is the occasional repetition in the side missions, but even those are still enjoyable thanks to the engaging gameplay and intriguing characters. Overall, Judgment is a masterful addition to the Yakuza universe and a must-play for fans of crime dramas and open-world games. It's a game that will keep you hooked from start to finish, with a story that will stick with you long after the credits roll. If you're looking for a game that offers an immersive, thrilling experience with a mix of crime, action, and justice, then look no further than Judgment.

Yazuka + Ace Attorney = Judgment
I have been waiting on this game for quite some time... But does it really live up to the hype? Answer? Yes, and so much more This game is made with the new dragon engine, which was featured in yazuka 6 and again in yakuza kawami 2 so it looks really good graphics wise. This story takes place 2 years after yakuza 6. While you may get small references to previous games (such as a mini game that is a reference to yakuza dead souls) , there will be no cameos or returning characters from the previous yakuza games. Seeing as your back in the yakuzaverse, your welcome back to a fresh new city of komurocho (note I only played yakuza 0 so far) It's really cool that you can just walk into buildings with actual interiors no loading screens this time. We start as yagami, a private detective and an ex-lawer. He has a ex-yakuza member as his parter, so these situations with these two are pretty entertaining. You pretty much have to solve the mystery of why are yakuza getting killed with missing eyes. That's all I'll spoil but this story has plenty of plot twists, engaging drama.... As expected from this studio the story is just as good as yakuza 0. Let me just say that the dub work for the english voices are fantasticly well done, of course for your yakuza purists there are japanese dubs and english subs as well as other language opinions for the subs. Sega really did good here compared to their last effort 12 years ago with dubing yakuza 1 was... Terrible to say the least. So you fight in your typical yakuza brawler action with yagami. You have two styles, a tiger style that is used for single opponents or a crane style for multiple opponents. You can see that yagami isn't a tank, instead his fighting is more controled like an actual martial artist. He has ex actions of course in your typical yakuza fasion, he can also run up walls for cool combos. He also has an ex burst which gives him reduced damage and increase attack. Unfourntly the thing that stucks is these mortal wounds that yagami can get make is heath bar permanently shorter... And the only way you can get it normal again is to go to a clinic or these VERY expensive medical packs. Of course it wouldn't be a yakuzaverse verse game if it didn't had mini games! So there are a bunch of new ones, raging from a VR Mario Party type game were you roll virtual dice in a virtual board to win prizes to drone racing.... Etc.. Just so much to do it's so much fun. Unfourntly no karaoke this time, but it's whatever. There are more game mechanics I havent really mentions such as the detective work, friendships... Etc. But I don't want this review to be overbearing... Plus amazon likes to mess my reviews up, so lets leave it at that. Verdict? 10/10 best yakuzaverse game since yakuza 0... Looks like I'll be wasting another 70 hours on this one too.

Yakuza: Journey to the West.
The Yakuza series offers an extremely rich story that spans over 6 titles now. With hundreds of hours worth of gameplay throughout it's beautifully-crafted Japanese world. In an attempt to lessen the burden of having to play so many titles just to experience the brilliance that is the Yakuza series, Sega made a spin-off with 'Judgment'. A brand new story, with all new characters; using all the same mechanics you have been curious about or already are familiar with from the Yakuza series. If you have played or even had enough time to really see what the Yakuza games have to offer, Judgement is really more of the same with a story full of twists and turns that is all self-contained in one title. You have your typical brutal hand-to-hand combat system with great flexibility, emotional story, goofy mini-games and batty side-quests to soak hours of your life into. And you will, with great enjoyment. Expect about 50 hours worth of adventure and story. The game even ditches the standard English Subtitles and offers a fully English voice cast that gets the job done. If you have ever been curious if Yakuza is right for you, 'Judgement' is here to sell you on them and succeeds at being a great game in itself.

One of the best games I have played
I really enjoyed playing this game for many reasons.Judgment has an amazing story, and characters that will just make you want to both keep playing, and replay many times. This is a open game that allows you to explore, do side cases, buy and sell items, and even play many types of mini games such as:arcade fighting, a type of VR game to win prizes, darts, claw machines, and more. It takes about 40-70 hours to play this game depending on how many side cases and requests you do. Personally I would recommend doing as many things a possible because there is so much that you will enjoy in this game.

Un Spin-Off Excelente

Great game if you are a fan of Japanese games
Great game, especially if you are a fan of the "Yakuza" series, even if you are new, it would not affect your game much as this is NOT a Yakuza game, it is it's own. The game is a mix of Ace Attorney and Yakuza. It was a fun game totally worth buying, it's a lot easier than Yakuza, and gameplay is about 40-70hrs long, even trying to Platinum the game. It has a lot to offer, side cases, secrets, and worth replaying the second time! Although Karaoke is missing from the mini game if you are a Yakuza fan, it doesn't take away from the games fun! It has a more serious tone than Yakuza, again this is it's own game and not a Yakuza series.

Great Spin off to the Yakuza series
Great Spin off to the Yakuza series, would love to have a sequel to expand the series and maybe make it into something more of it's own. If you are a Yakuza fan, you will enjoy yourself. As it uses pretty much all the same game and story beats of the Yakuza games. Definitely want more of the series in the future.
