Exactly what I needed! This Micro USB 3.0 splitter cable works perfectly to boost power for my external hard drive. The 5Gbps speed is maintained and the build quality is solid. Cable Matters always delivers reliable cables. The 20-inch length is convenient. No issues at all.

I purchased this cable to add external power to a hard disk drive connected to my Dish Wally which caused internal resets when the HDD drew too much power. It seems to have solved all my DVR problems. The Wally boots up faster now and I can once again fast reverse TV and movies. I just had to plug the smaller wire usb into a standard usb charger and so far problem solved.

Cable is good, though one does need to take care when plugging in to their devices.

I used this for my WiiU, back when I actually used it a lot. it was easy to use and install, all that jazz. But its just- so strange having to see a weird conglomerate of wires sticking out of a terabyte. It's so eldritch, and kind of messy looking. but hey! The wire works and doesn't feel cheap or poor, so that's nice. 10/10.

I am trying to breathe new life into an aging WiiU and am looking to run backups of games on a hard drive instead of using a disc to (1) speed up gameplay and (2) to allow my kids from having to avoid inserting discs repeatedly. The only problem is the hard drive in and of itself draws more power than a single little USB ports on the back of the WiiU device can provide and so this cable allows me to utilize BOTH of the USB ports to power and run the hard drive. Worked like a charm! Would highly recommend for anyone looking to do this on their WiiU device.

I was on the fence about buying this cable for a long time, but I'm glad I finally did. This cable is absolutely necessary if you are still rocking the WiiU this long after the death of the system. The WiiU had an abysmally small internal drive that could barely hold any games. I got by with an old thumb drive for a while, but I finally got tired of dealing with it and splurged on this cable and a Maxone portable HDD, and they work perfectly, and won't break the bank. If you've done any research on HDDs for the Wii U, you'll know that all of the recommended ones are either super expensive at this point, or are all out of stock. I can affirm that this cable and that Maxone HDD do indeed work for the WiiU, and I've been able to load several WiiU games on it. Just note that in order to use the HDD with the official WiiU firmware, it does have to be formatted to work with the WiiU, and it will only be readable by the WiiU. If you had other plans for what you'd store on this HDD (say, games that were strictly for the onboard virtual Wii or vWii using any kind of unofficial Wii homebrew), you will need another secondary HDD or SD card for that. But for games downloaded for the soon to be defunct WiiU eShop, or any WiiU game installs (such as the girthy Xenoblade Chronicles X install) this combination is perfect.
